Architectural Awards and Professional Recognition
We believe design is an ongoing dialogue with the landscape and the community. These honors validate our commitment to sustainable, context-driven architecture that prioritizes long-term ecological impact.
I was humbled that my project "Breathe" was a finalist for the Latitude 2025 design awards by the Indian Institute of Architects. This video shows the project being presented alongside the work of other contemporary practices I admire.
It was an honor to receive the First Award for our project "Breathe" in the Private Residence (Built) category at the Eduwik Architecture Excellence Awards 2022. This international recognition was a wonderful surprise and a testament to the team's work.
About Awards & Recognition
Recognition is meaningful to our practice because it highlights how our unconventional material choices—such as compressed earth blocks and passive cooling strategies—perform in the real world. When projects like 'Breathe' are acknowledged by institutions like the Indian Institute of Architects or international forums, it reinforces that our focus on climate-responsive design resonates with a broader community of thinkers, not just within our own studio.
Awards are a reflection of a collective effort. At Betweenlines, we do not design in a vacuum; every project we undertake is the result of deep collaboration between our team, the site's unique environmental factors, and the client's vision.
The 'Breathe' Case Study
Our recent recognition for the 'Breathe' residence serves as a pivotal example of this philosophy. The project was awarded First Place in the Private Residence (Built) category at the Eduwik Architecture Excellence Awards 2022 and was a finalist at the Latitude 2025 design awards. For us, these accolades are not just about the final aesthetic but about the execution of a sustainable narrative.
Our Approach to Evaluation
We submit our work for critical review because it subjects our methodologies to scrutiny. We are interested in how our use of raw materials—lime plaster, exposed brick, and local stone—is interpreted by the architectural community. Whether we are working on heritage restoration or a new compact urban build, our goals remain consistent:
- Material Honesty: Proving that vernacular materials can meet modern structural standards.
- Ecological Sensitivity: Implementing passive climate strategies to reduce energy loads.
- Spatial Narrative: Creating 'in-between' spaces that foster human connection.
We are grateful to the juries and our peers who continue to engage with our work. It challenges us to push further into research-oriented architecture, ensuring that the 'gaps' between city and nature remain a space for innovation and responsible making.
