Our Design Philosophy: Spaces That Work for You
We believe architecture is more than aesthetics. We focus on solving the specific lifestyle problems you face at home, using design to make your daily routine smoother.
Our design process always starts with a conversation. We believe architecture is about solving the problems clients face in their daily lives to truly upgrade their lifestyle.
As co-founders, we have divided responsibilities to play to our strengths. This allows us to give our best to every project, ensuring a seamless process from structure to interiors.
Constructive criticism is a vital part of our partnership. We constantly push each other to refine ideas, which often takes a project to a completely different level.
Staying adaptable is key to our design process. We are always updating our skills and embracing new technologies like AI to evolve our designs and standardize our technical work.
Here's a little about how we started. We began Axiom Design Studio in 2019 after gaining practical experience, starting with a small project of just four toilets, and have grown from there.
What is Japandi? In this video, I break down the core principles: a mix of Japanese and Scandinavian styles, emphasizing minimalism, subtle tones, and the "less is more" philosophy.
A key consideration for Japandi design is ensuring the whole family is aligned with its minimalist aesthetic. For this project, the family's shared vision allowed us to focus on the essence of Japandi.
In this project, we introduced the concept of Wabi-Sabi, which finds beauty in imperfection. We blended its raw textures and natural finishes with the clean functionality of Japandi.
How do you make a neoclassical home feel unique? I explain that when using a monochrome palette, the key is layering different textures in furniture, paint, and art to add differentiation and depth.
Polyester-based curtains are a popular choice for good reason. I explain their benefits, including durability, affordability, and easy maintenance, which make them a practical and beautiful option.
About Our Design Philosophy
We don't believe in showroom copy-paste or designing for trends that fade. Our process starts with your specific pain points—like how you navigate a hallway or where your workflow gets stuck. We build around your actual movement, ensuring every corner of your home has a purpose before we even touch the aesthetic elements.
Our design ethos is simple: Function comes first, style follows. When we sit down to discuss a project, we aren't asking what’s trending; we're asking what’s not working in your current space.
Why We Lean into Japandi and Wabi-Sabi
We embrace philosophies like Japandi and Wabi-Sabi because they align with our belief that homes should be lived-in, calm, and functional. It’s about minimal elements that carry maximum impact. We curate textures and tones—using raw finishes, neutral palettes, and intentional lighting—to create a sense of stillness. It is not about emptiness; it is about keeping only what adds value to your space.
The Strength of a Two-Lead Partnership
Because we have two lead architects, our clients benefit from a dual perspective. One of us might focus on the structural logic and civil requirements, while the other refines the interior experience and material palette. We constantly challenge each other with 'constructive crits,' ensuring every design decision is battle-tested before it reaches your site. When you hire Axiom, you aren't just getting a designer; you are getting two people who push for the best solution for your project.
Tech-Forward Execution
Technology isn't just a buzzword for us. Whether it’s AI-driven conceptualizing to test layouts or detailed electrical looping and joinery drawings, we use digital tools to standardize our work. This ensures that what you see in the 3D renders is exactly what gets built on-site. We are on-site regularly, checking design adherence until the final fitting, so you don't have to worry about coordination between different contractors.
Axiom Design Studio
We’re Aishwarya and Kunal. We started Axiom because we wanted to move away from just 'doing interiors' and toward solving real lifestyle problems through design. We don’t just take orders; we challenge ideas, bounce them off each other, and push until the space feels exactly right for you.
