Upcycle your wedding outfit and create custom looks
Don't let your beautiful wedding dress sit in a box. Let's give it a fresh life as a modern outfit you will actually wear again.
I'm in the news for my tips on what to do with your wedding dress after the big day. Don't just store it away. You can repurpose it by dyeing it, cutting it, or completely revamping it into a new outfit.
About Upcycled & Custom Creations
When I rework a piece, we aren't just cutting fabric—we are figuring out the new story of the garment. Whether it is dyeing a heavy lehenga to a softer hue or turning a traditional silk saree into a tailored pant-suit, I look at the construction first to see what is possible without losing the original soul of the piece.
Sustainability is not just a buzzword; it is about respecting the fabric and the memories attached to it. For over 30 years in Bollywood, I have seen some of the most expensive outfits end up in trunks, and tauba, that is such a waste!
My Approach to Upcycling
- The Assessment: We start with a 45-minute consultation to see what we are working with. Not all fabrics can be cut—heavy Zardozi work requires a different hand than Banarasi brocade or liquid organza. I will tell you honestly if the fabric can handle the change.
- The Transformation: We might be repurposing a heavy wedding lehenga into a chic co-ord set, or turning a saree into a modern jacket. It is about balancing the traditional embroidery with a modern silhouette. Sometimes, it is just about changing the blouse or removing a heavy border to make the piece wearable for a smaller party.
- Technical Details: We pay attention to structure. If we are making a pant-suit from a saree, we need to ensure the drape is supported by the right inner linings and boning. I personally oversee the fittings to make sure the fall is perfect.
It is thoda alag (a little different) from buying something off the rack, but that is the beauty of it. You end up with a piece that is truly yours, sustainable, and full of history. Let’s sit down and see what your wardrobe is hiding.
