Bring your favorite photos to life with hand-drawn color pencil art. These aren't digital prints, but original, textured pieces created with hours of patience and high-quality materials.

This A3 size custom couple portrait was created using color pencils to capture a special memory. I focus on getting the skin tones and clothing details just right to create a vibrant, lifelike piece of art.

A 16-hour commission of a couple, drawn with color pencils on A3 paper. I worked to blend the colors smoothly to create realistic skin tones and capture the warmth of their relationship.

A commissioned portrait of a woman, created with color pencils on A3 paper. I focused on the subtle colors of her outfit and the natural tones of her skin and hair.

This is a commissioned portrait made with color pencils. I worked to capture the subject's personality and the fine details of his expression and the checked pattern of his vest.

An A3 size couple portrait made with color pencils. This medium allows me to capture details like the reflection on sunglasses and the bright colors of their clothes.

A commission work on A4 paper using color pencils. I enjoyed creating the texture and vibrant red color of the traditional Rajasthani turban.

"Life was meant for best friends." This A3 color portrait was a 16-hour commission to celebrate friendship, capturing a happy moment between two friends.

About Vibrant Color Pencil Portraits

I don't just color; I layer. Achieving skin tone accuracy with pencils requires patience, specifically to avoid the waxy or flat look often found in standard drawings. I build the volume using Faber Castell Polychromos so that the portrait feels 3D, which is crucial when handling intricate details like jewelry, fabric folds in sarees, or the texture of a traditional turban.

When you choose a color pencil portrait, you are picking a medium that brings warmth and vibrancy that graphite simply cannot provide. This is my approach to every commission:

The Process

I work from clear, high-resolution photographs. If you have two different photos of people you want together, I can merge them into one cohesive composition before I even touch the paper. This is a common request for couple or family portraits where a joint photo doesn't exist.

Why Color Pencils?

  • Depth and Texture: Unlike digital art, you can see the grain of the 200gsm Brustro paper and the stroke of the pencil. It feels real because it is.
  • No Waxy Finish: I avoid applying heavy, waxy layers. Instead, I use lightfast pigments and multiple thin layers to create a natural, skin-like complexion.
  • Customizable Backgrounds: I keep backgrounds tonal or abstract to ensure the subject remains the focus, rather than letting the background clutter the visual space.

What You Get

Every piece takes me anywhere from 12 to 16 hours of focused work. I don't rush these. You get an unframed A3 or A4 piece, finished with a fixative spray to prevent smudging and fading over time. Whether it is a gift for a best friend or a permanent tribute to a family memory, this medium captures the color of the moment, not just the outline.

I am Mahipal. For me, art is the only thing that keeps the stress of the world away. When I pick up my pencils, I am not thinking about algorithms or views, just how to capture the exact shade of a memory on paper.
