About Elegant Wardrobes for TV Drama: Vanshaj
Designing for a TV poster is quite different from everyday wear. It is about ensuring the fabric catches the light and the silhouette holds its own against a studio backdrop, which is why I focused on specific textures like lace and chikankari that define the Vanshaj aesthetic.
When I sat down to design the wardrobe for the Vanshaj poster shoot, the brief was clear: convey wealth, power, and family legacy. Posters are distinct because they are frozen moments. There is no movement to hide a poor fit, so every pleat has to be perfect.
My Approach to Poster Styling
- Color Theory: We chose soft, luxurious tones like dusty pinks and vibrant yellows to balance the intensity of the show's themes. A soft pink lace saree, for instance, evokes a grace that commands attention without being too loud.
- Texture and Lighting: Studio lights are unforgiving. I chose fabrics that interact beautifully with high-intensity strobes. The intricate chikankari embroidery on the yellow kurta set adds depth, creating a visual richness that translates well to high-resolution billboards and digital thumbnails.
- Character Arc Analysis: Before sourcing, I break down the script to understand the character's journey. For Vanshaj, the wardrobe had to reflect the status of the leading ladies. We moved away from generic costume choices to create pieces that look like family heirlooms. It is not just about the clothes; it is about making the actor feel like they own the role the moment they step onto the set.
