This was a historic moment, performing for the Dior Fall '23 show at the iconic Gateway of India. I curated the Indian musical segment, creating a live dialogue between Indian and Western classical music that was choreographed to the catwalk. It was a pioneering blend of fashion, tradition, and modern artistry.
I am incredibly proud of my band, Stree Shakti, the world's first all-female Indian classical ensemble. The Ramayan is an epic that resonates deeply with me, and I wanted to tell its story through the voice of my tabla. This is a glimpse into my conceptual show, 'Ramayan on Tabla', an audio-visual musical theatre experience that combines folk, classical, and fusion music with poetry and vocals to bring the epic to life.
It has been a profound honour to tour and perform with the God of Bansuri, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia. This clip is from one of our many concerts together, a memory of the beautiful musical conversations we shared on stages across the world, from India and Japan to Australia.
Music is often about spontaneous connection. This was an impromptu jam session with the incredible American jazz guitarist Stanley Jordan. It’s in these unplanned moments of fusion, where my tabla meets a completely different musical tradition, that new and exciting rhythms are born.
Representing India on the world's most iconic stages has been a dream. This collage captures the energy of performing at the Woodstock Festival for 400,000 fans and at the WOMAD festival, where my Stree Shakti band and I received a standing ovation from over 150,000 people.
I am forever grateful for the encouragement I have received from our nation's leaders. This is a collection of communications from our beloved Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi ji, including a personal letter and his recognition of my work as 'Bharat ki Lakshmi'.
