About Fashion Show Curation & Jury Duty
As a jury member and guest of honor, I look beyond the immediate aesthetic of a runway show. I assess collections based on technical precision—the quality of the stitching, the drape of the fabric, and the market viability of the design. My goal is to guide students and emerging labels in understanding what truly resonates with a commercial audience while keeping their unique creative spark alive.
Being a jury member at events like the Delhi Times Fashion Week and the India Style Fashion Week is about more than just picking a winner. It is about nurturing the next generation of designers.
My approach to curation is rooted in my NIFT training and years of experience styling celebrities and high-end brands. I evaluate presentations on a few core pillars:
- Commercial Edge: Does the collection have a market? I look for designs that are not just runway-ready but also have retail potential.
- Technical Skill: I analyze the finishing, the fabric sourcing, and the structural integrity of the garments. A beautiful concept means little if the execution doesn't hold up.
- Brand Identity: A designer needs to tell a story. I check if the collection aligns with the designer's personal voice and if the styling choices support that narrative.
I treat every show as an opportunity to share, mentor, and inspire. Whether I am offering feedback to design students at AAFT or reviewing collections at major industry events, I aim to provide actionable insights that help creators level up their work. Fashion is constantly flowing, like life itself—ghoomna phirna zaroori hai—and staying updated with global trends while respecting our desi craftsmanship is how we move forward.
