About this collection
Receiving accolades like the 'Promising Lawyer of the Year' at the Mumbai Achievers Awards or a Lifetime Achievement honor isn't just about the trophy on my shelf. It is validation of the specific battles we've fought in the High Court and the systemic issues we have challenged—whether it's holding corporations accountable for POSH compliance or fighting for the dignity of manual scavengers. When you look at these milestones, know that they were earned by fighting for real people who needed a voice.
My journey from the civil services to the courtroom was driven by one goal: to fix a system that often fails the vulnerable. These awards are markers of that crusade.
Validating the Struggle for Rights
Whether it is the 'Excellence in Legal' award in Mumbai or being featured as a guest editor in Rajasthan Patrika to highlight the plight of manual scavenger widows, these recognitions serve as a platform. They allow me to amplify the stories of women facing domestic violence, dowry harassment, or workplace abuse. When a publication covers my work, it is not just a feature; it is an opportunity to bring national attention to Section 498A cases or the urgent need for police accountability.
Impact Beyond the Courtroom
I have always believed that legal work must extend beyond filing petitions. My engagement in media panels, TEDx talks, and university lectures helps demystify the law for the next generation. Being recognized for these contributions reaffirms my belief that we must use every tool available—be it the media, public forums, or the judiciary—to challenge patriarchal mindsets and demand systemic reform.
Jab tak hum ek dusre ka haath nahi thamenge (until we hold each other's hands), the country will not progress. These awards give me the visibility to continue that fight, ensuring that my clients' voices are heard in the corridors of power where decisions are actually made.
Abha Singh
I started out as a civil servant, but the systemic failures I witnessed pushed me into the courtroom to fight for the marginalized. Today, I use my legal experience to demand accountability, whether that is through PILs, criminal representation, or fighting for gender justice.
