Signature Architectural Spaces and Raw Luxury Designs
A glimpse into my core philosophy. These projects define my approach: raw, earthy, and deeply connected to nature.
This bathroom is designed to feel like a private, natural spa. I used a custom-carved stone sink and an organically shaped, backlit mirror to create a focal point. The lime-washed walls and soft lighting complete the feeling of a serene escape, bringing the 'sukh and sukoon' of nature indoors.
This dining area combines two of my signature elements: a live-edge wood table and Japanese-style low seating. The design creates an intimate, grounded space for meals, promoting harmony and conversation. The natural grain of the wood is the hero, complemented by the clean lines of the surrounding architecture.
For the 6th Empirica rooftop cafe, I wanted to create a wanderlust-filled escape. The ceiling, crafted from woven bamboo and natural wood branches, creates a canopy that feels both organic and dramatic. This design transports you, making every moment feel special.
This bedroom is a retreat designed for maximum calm. The walls are finished with a soft, lime-wash texture, and the color palette is warm and earthy. I designed the space with minimal forms, like the backlit wall art and custom bench, to create a quiet, soulful environment that feels like a gentle embrace.
Here you can see the complete transformation of my own studio. I took a standard rectangular room and sculpted it into a cave-like sanctuary. This before-and-after shows how I use texture, light, and organic forms to completely reshape a space and give it a soul.
The final touch is often the most important. This video shows my hands-on process of applying gold leaf to a custom-designed handle. It’s this level of detail and artistry that turns a functional object into a piece of sculpture, adding a touch of raw luxury to the design.
Lighting is not just for illumination; it's a sculptural element that defines an atmosphere. For this rooftop, I designed these custom tree-like light installations that create a magical, whimsical environment against the evening sky. They are both functional and a central piece of art.
About this collection
When you see the textured walls in my projects, you are looking at my signature 'touch of mud' technique. It is not just paint, but a manual process of layering earth-based materials to create a raw, cooling surface that connects your home to the elements. I build these finishes by hand on-site, ensuring the texture responds perfectly to the natural light in your room, creating a depth that standard wall finishes simply cannot match.
My design process starts with a feeling, not a computer model. I call it 'kulbulahat'—that tingling excitement I get when I imagine how a space will breathe. Whether I am transforming a rectangular room into a cave-like studio sanctuary or designing a rooftop cafe with bamboo canopies, my goal is the same: to create spaces that offer 'sukh and sukoon,' or happiness and peace.
The Raw Luxury Philosophy
I work primarily with natural materials like stone, lime wash, solid wood, and reclaimed bamboo. This is what I call 'raw luxury.' It is about embracing imperfections, like the unique grain in a live-edge dining table or the weathered finish of charred wood. I believe that a space should feel like it has been here forever, quiet and grounded.
Why Handcrafted Details Matter
I don’t just source decor; I build it. From custom-cast brass door handles finished with 24K gold leaf to sculptural lighting installations that mimic the canopy of trees, every piece is designed to be a conversation starter. When you work with me, you are not buying off-the-shelf furniture. You are getting artisan-made pieces that are tailored to your specific habits, like the ergonomic curve of a sofa or the precise height of a floating console.
Creating Your Sanctuary
My projects span across India, from residential bedrooms and Zen-inspired living areas to commercial hospitality spaces. If you are looking for a designer who values the soul of a building as much as its floor plan, we are a good match. We handle the design and the build, meaning my team and I are physically present on-site to ensure the 'touch of mud' is applied exactly as intended. We want to build something that feels less like a project and more like a second home.
Aavyaktaya Architects
I’m Akshay. I don’t believe in sitting behind a screen all day; I’d rather be on-site with mud on my hands, figuring out how to make a space breathe. My studio is my laboratory, and every project—whether it is a rooftop cafe or a quiet bedroom—is an attempt to carve out a little bit of 'sukh and sukoon' for you.
