Outdoor Yoga and Nature Practice in Bengaluru

Finding balance doesn't always happen within four walls. Whether we are grounding our feet on the earth or using the natural landscape for support, nature teaches us to adapt, breathe, and find our steady flow.

Finding stability in Vriksasana, or Tree Pose, surrounded by greenery. Practicing this grounding pose in nature is a powerful reminder of our connection to the earth and our own inner strength.

Another beautiful moment in Tree Pose, this time deep in the woods. You can feel the calming, steady energy of the trees, which helps to focus the mind and find stillness within.

Flying into Virabhadrasana 3, or Warrior 3, in a garden. This pose requires immense focus and core strength, teaching us to stand firm and find balance, both on and off the mat.

A joyful Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana, or Extended Hand-to-Big-Toe Pose, in the park. This posture is a fantastic way to challenge your balance while stretching your hamstrings.

Another take on Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana. The heart of yoga practice is *abyhasa*, which means steady effort. Each time we come to the mat, we put in the work, and slowly, progress happens.

A gentle seated twist, Ardha Matsyendrasana, on a fallen tree branch. Spinal twists are wonderful for releasing tension and improving digestion, and practicing them outdoors feels incredibly refreshing.

Finding a moment of peace in Gomukhasana, or Cow Face Pose arms, while perched on a tree. This is a great stretch for the shoulders and a reminder to let go and just be one with your breath.

About this collection

Practicing outdoors changes the rhythm of your flow. While my studio in HSR Layout is our regular home base, taking our practice to local parks helps us break the routine of the daily grind. It is about finding that stillness in the middle of a busy city and reminding yourself that you can find your center, no matter what environment you are in.

When we step out of the studio, the practice shifts. Uneven ground challenges your balance and forces your core to work in ways a flat wooden floor simply cannot. This is 'abyhasa' in action—steady, focused effort regardless of the surroundings.

Why Practice in Nature?

  • Enhanced Pranayama: Breathing fresh air during our opening and closing sequences does wonders for calming the nervous system.
  • Natural Grounding: Connecting with the earth—what I often call Mother Nature’s lap—helps us tap into a deeper sense of stillness.
  • Adaptability: Yoga isn't one-size-fits-all. When we use a fallen branch or a park bench for support, we learn to modify and flow based on what is available, not just what is 'perfect'.

Whether you are a beginner looking to understand the basics of Hatha or an experienced practitioner wanting to sharpen your Vinyasa flow, these sessions are about more than just movement. It is about letting go of expectations and connecting to your breath. We keep things light, laugh when we wobble, and always make sure you leave feeling more grounded than when you arrived.

I am Amrita. I teach Hatha and Vinyasa yoga in HSR Layout, but I love sneaking out to nature whenever I can. For me, yoga is not about perfect poses on a mat—it is about staying connected to your breath and finding that steady effort, whether we are in the studio or out in the park.
