Phonics & Early Reading Classes for Kids
Reading shouldn't be a chore. I help children build confidence with phonics through games, magnetic letters, and interactive play, moving away from rote memorization to true understanding.
Watch as one of my 4-year-old students confidently reads words using magnetic letters. We build early reading skills step by step, focusing on phonics sounds to make reading a joyful discovery, not a chore. This is a perfect example of how we make learning to read an engaging activity.
This is a look at an online phonics lesson covering short vowel sounds. I connect the English sounds to Hindi letters, like 'अ' for the short 'a' sound, to help children understand the concepts more clearly. We cover rules for sounds like 'ae', 'ee', and 'au'.
In this part of our online phonics class, we are learning about the long 'e' sound. I explain the pronunciation and spelling rules, such as when the 'ee' sound appears in a word. We then practice with examples like 'jeep' and 'sleep'.
I love celebrating my students' progress. Here is a completed online worksheet where a student scored 10 out of 10 on their phonics exercise. We use these to gently check understanding of concepts like filling in the blanks with the correct words.
A screenshot from a live class where we worked on the short vowel 'a' sound. The student is identifying and reading CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words like 'hat', 'cat', and 'bat' from a colorful worksheet.
A proud student showing her completed alphabet grid. Activities like this help with letter recognition and writing practice in a structured yet simple format. Seeing her smile is the best reward.
Here is a young student proudly showing his notebook filled with practice for writing the letter 'A'. Consistent, gentle practice is key to developing fine motor skills and confidence in handwriting.
Listening to a child recite a nursery rhyme like 'Five Little Ducks' is pure joy. Rhymes are a wonderful tool for developing language skills, memory, and pronunciation in a fun, musical way.
About Phonics & Early Reading
I keep my online phonics sessions interactive by using digital whiteboards and printable activity sheets, so your child isn't just listening to a screen. We focus on synthetic phonics—learning 42 letter sounds and blending techniques—to help them decode unknown words naturally instead of asking them to memorize spellings.
Learning to read is a major milestone, but it doesn't have to be stressful. I see so many children struggle, not because they lack ability, but because they are being taught through rigid drills that don't make sense to a developing brain.
My approach, which I call 'masti se padhai' (learning with fun), changes that. Whether we are meeting online or at my academy in Paschim Vihar, the goal is the same: to make letter sounds and word formation feel like a game.
How We Build Reading Skills
- Synthetic Phonics: We start by mastering the 42 letter sounds and digraphs (like 'sh', 'ch', and 'th'). This gives kids the tools to decode words they have never seen before.
- CVC Word Blending: We practice consonant-vowel-consonant combinations (like 'cat', 'bat', 'hat') so children feel the immediate reward of reading actual words early on.
- Interactive Tools: If we are online, we use shared screens to manipulate sounds. In-person, we use magnetic letters, flashcards, and 3D objects to make abstract concepts tangible.
Why It Works
I treat every student as an individual. Some kids grasp the 'Magic e' rule quickly, while others need more time with nursery rhymes to build their pronunciation. By keeping my batches small, I can adapt the pace to exactly what your child needs. We don't just finish a curriculum; we ensure the child is actually ready for the next level. If you have been looking for a way to get your child excited about books, let’s talk about our current phonics batches.
