The Rio Home: Reinvented English Eclectic
A 4,000 sq ft Bengaluru duplex that blends the grandeur of a classic English mansion with a calm, minimal grace. This home is a canvas for memories, art, and timeless design.
A first look at the Rio Home, where we aimed for a timeless and collected feel. The design features classic furniture silhouettes, ample natural light, and carefully chosen decor to create a space that is both restrained and full of character.
The formal living area features a dramatic double-height ceiling and floor-to-ceiling moulded walls. We used classic English roll-arm couches and a bold mustard chaise to define the space and create a warm, lived-in, and collected vibe.
An expansive view of the Rio Home's open-plan living and dining areas. The layout was designed to feel fluid and airy, connecting the large spaces while allowing each to have its own distinct personality and function.
We layered the living room with antiques and collectibles from our client's personal collection, including a striking gallery of masks. This approach ensures the home truly tells the story of the people who live there.
The formal and informal living spaces in the Rio Home are connected yet distinct. Here you can see the transition, with a framed textile art piece anchoring the formal seating area and drawing the eye.
A view from the dining area looking into the expansive living spaces. The layered design, with its mix of textures and styles, unfolds like a story as you move through the home, creating an inviting and luxe atmosphere.
The dining room features a beautiful coffered ceiling and a wall of custom cabinetry for storage. The open connection to the living area makes it perfect for entertaining, maintaining a serene and stately presence.
About this collection
For this home, we focused on creating a neutral backdrop—think creamy whites and soft greys—that allows the family’s personal collection of art and antiques to shine. The layout is intentionally open, moving from the patterned Victorian-style floors in the foyer to the warm, wood-floored sunken living room, creating a natural flow that feels both grand and intimate.
We believe your home should tell your story, not just follow a trend. At The Rio Home, the challenge was balancing the stately, formal English aesthetic with the reality of daily life in Bengaluru. We did not want a museum; we wanted a home that felt lived-in and warm.
The Design Process
The foyer acts as a transition point, using Victorian-inspired patterned tiles to ground the space. We added custom paneled storage under the staircase, transforming a typically wasted area into a functional, beautiful feature. Moving into the living areas, the double-height ceiling gives the space a sense of openness, while floor-to-ceiling wainscoting provides the classic, structured look of an English mansion.
Balancing Elements
Eclectic design is about layers. We paired modern furniture silhouettes with traditional pieces like the four-poster bed in the primary bedroom. The use of warm wood tones, brass accents, and punchy colors—like the mustard chaise in the living room and the sage green in the bedroom—prevents the neutral base from feeling sterile.
Why This Works
Good interior design isn't about the furniture; it’s about the flow. We used an open-plan layout that connects the living, lounge, and dining spaces. By keeping the sightlines clear, the house feels airy and expansive, even when it’s full of personality and texture. If you’re looking to bring this kind of timeless, collected aesthetic to your own space, it starts with identifying what you want to keep and what needs a fresh start.
Weespaces
At Weespaces, I believe that a home should feel like a sanctuary, not a catalog. We love taking a blank wall or a raw space and filling it with the stories that make you, you. Whether we're blending Californian casual vibes or classic English structures, it’s always about creating a place where you can actually put your feet up.
