Eclectic and Colonial-Inspired Interiors
We blend vintage charm with modern functionality to create spaces that feel deeply personal, character-filled, and timeless.
The exterior of 'Mina Nivas' is a beautiful blend of styles. The stone cladding, traditional sloping roof, and white picket fence create a charming and inviting facade that hints at the colonial-inspired interiors within.
This view of the sunken living room at 'Mina Nivas' captures the home's unique play of volumes. The ornate wrought iron balustrades, a classic element of Calcutta homes, are a key feature that I loved experimenting with to bring a sense of history and nostalgia to the space.
The library in 'Mina Nivas' was designed to feel like a moody, opulent English den. It features Chesterfield-style chairs, a waffle ceiling, and extensive book-dotted walls, creating a quiet and contemplative retreat for work or reading.
This vintage-inspired vanity, separated from the master bedroom by an ombre glass partition, is a perfect example of classic elegance. The intricate carvings and rich wood finish add a touch of old-world charm and create a dedicated, luxurious space for getting ready.
The terrace lounge is the nucleus of recreation in 'Mina Nivas'. The vibrant Aegean blue Athangudi tiles are the star of the show, creating a dynamic floor that pairs beautifully with the cement-textured walls and a modern pool table. It's a space designed for fun and gatherings.
The passageway and main door of the 'Free Spirited by the Hills' farmhouse, as seen from the courtyard. The rustic stone wall, earthy tones, and bold red door create a beautiful composition that feels organic and deeply connected to the landscape.
A glimpse into the 'Free Spirited by the Hills' project, a holiday home designed to be organic and earthy. The double-height glass wall floods the space with light, while the eclectic mix of art and furniture creates a relaxed and bohemian interior.
About this collection
The secret to an eclectic home isn't just hunting for vintage furniture. It is in how we pair a piece of family history—like an old trunk or a heritage door—with modern utility. In our 'Mina Nivas' project, we mixed classic wrought iron with contemporary lighting, ensuring the space feels like a home that has evolved over time rather than a showroom.
Eclectic and colonial-inspired design is about storytelling. We start by looking for those anchor pieces—an antique mirror, a wooden pillar, or a chair passed down through generations—and build the room around them. This is not about recreating a museum; it is about keeping the warmth of old-world details while ensuring the home works for a modern Bengaluru lifestyle.
Our process is hands-on and sometimes messy. It involves scouring local markets, working with artisans to restore wood, and yes, plenty of 'Please Bhaiya' conversations on-site to get the finish just right. We love using elements like Athangudi tiles for a burst of color, rattan for texture, and lime-wash finishes that soften the light.
Whether you want to incorporate a specific family heirloom or want us to source pieces that fit your vision, we focus on harmony. It is about balancing bold colors, eclectic patterns, and that specific soul that makes a house feel like it belongs to you.
House of Ruya
I'm Aishwarya, and at House of Ruya, we believe your home should mirror your personality, not a catalog. We love mixing old-world colonial details with the realities of modern Bengaluru living.
