We combined the airy, sun-drenched spirit of a Californian hacienda with the warm, grounded texture of Indian craftsmanship for this Bengaluru residence. It is a home built for slow living, where every corner tells a story.

This video captures the essence of the Earthy Hacienda home. It's a space that effortlessly blends California casual with Indian rootedness, creating a layered, elegant feel that slowly unfolds as you walk through.

The vibe of this home is unmistakable from the moment you step in. Soft arches connect the common spaces, leading you toward a stunning framed custom mural that sets a calm, modern, and layered tone.

The informal living space features a traditional Indian swing, or 'jhoola', which adds a playful and rooted element. The room opens up to a garden, blurring the lines between indoors and outdoors.

Seen through an archway, the informal living room showcases a mix of comfortable seating, including a rust-colored sofa and a modern swing. The wood-paneled ceiling adds warmth and texture to the space.

A view from the informal living area peeking into the beautiful sage green kitchen. The open layout creates a great flow between spaces, perfect for family life.

The open-plan living and dining area is zoned diagonally to create flow and openness. A cane-fronted credenza provides storage and adds a touch of natural texture, complemented by botanical art prints.

Earth tones carry through the home, connecting the living spaces across both levels. This formal living area uses soft beiges and natural textures to feel warm and inviting while retaining a light, airy presence.

About this collection

The secret to the flow of this home was zoning the large, open-plan living area diagonally. By placing the traditional Indian 'jhoola' in the informal zone and angling the seating to face both the garden and the interior, we carved out distinct pockets of intimacy without closing off the space. It gives you that breezy Californian feeling while keeping the grounded, lived-in character of an Indian home.

A Tale of Two Worlds

Designing this home meant finding the balance between the relaxed, expansive vibe of a Californian hacienda and the textured, earthy rootedness of an Indian house. We started by working with the home's architecture, introducing soft arches that connect common spaces and lead you through the residence naturally.

The Material Palette

The color story here is a departure from high-contrast modern palettes. We leaned into sage greens, dusty terracottas, and warm beiges to keep the atmosphere calm. To bring in that 'California Casual' feel, we used natural, tactile materials:

  • Cane and Wood: Custom credenzas and the informal swing (jhoola) bring in organic warmth.
  • Wall Finishes: We avoided flat paint in favor of textural treatments that catch the natural light.
  • Kitchen Detail: The kitchen is the functional heart of this home, featuring sage green cabinetry and classic checkerboard flooring that feels both timeless and fresh.

Thoughtful Planning

We didn't just place furniture; we planned how the space would grow with the family. The kitchen was designed with a central oak island to bridge the gap between heavy cooking prep and casual social gatherings. By incorporating niches for essentials and hidden pantry storage, we kept the visual clutter down, ensuring the room feels like a retreat rather than a work zone. This project taught us that when you respect the architecture and listen to the client's story, the design reveals itself naturally.
