Immersive Sensory Environments and Spatial Narratives
We transform abstract narratives into tangible, multi-sensory experiences, blending architectural structure with the intimacy of hand-crafted textiles to create spaces that breathe.
A walkthrough of the 'Feel More' installation, a tranquil journey through layers of translucent, hand-printed fabrics. The video captures the ethereal, dream-like quality of the space as light shifts and breathes, inviting a meditative exploration of its subtle details.
This video takes you to the 'Edge of the Forest', an installation designed for healing and contemplation. It shows the interplay of light and shadow within a bamboo forest, the glow of fireflies, and a sculptural cluster of traditional fish traps, creating a deeply evocative context.
For the 'Sleep Sense' theme, we created a metaphorical space that alludes to pure, stress-free sleep. This installation uses layers of soft, hand-stitched mul fabrics and hand-felted wools to project a warm, cozy, womb-like environment.
An installation for the 'Cherish' theme, where we created an experience of forest bathing through layered fabrics. Paper boats float on pools of reflection, inviting viewers to be present in the 'now' and find something worth cherishing in the moment.
The 'Cardinal' installation, for the Colour of the Year 2025, is a dreamlike environment woven from translucent textiles. The shifting opacities and nuanced hues evoke a range of emotions, from mystery and melancholy to profound introspection.
A delicate mobile hangs within the 'Feel More' installation, its elements turning gently in the air. This detail transforms the experience into a meditative journey of discovery, where the small, subtle, and intricate become moments of quiet reflection.
A detail from the 'Sleep Sense' installation, where poetic text is stitched into layers of soft, deckled-edge fabric panels. The running stitch is reminiscent of traditional quilts (rajais), and the backlit panels feel like light, floating clouds in a soothing dream.
The entrance to the 'Feel More' installation, where layers of translucent fabric beckon you to pause and awaken your senses. The soft gradients of color flow seamlessly across the panels, whispering stories of nature's simplicity.
A detail from the 'Edge of the Forest' installation, where a quote about nature is inscribed on a bamboo-like surface. The space is designed as an inward journey away from the urban jungle, meant to heal with wisdom, art, and ancestral traditions.
Light and shadow play within the bamboo forest of our 'Edge of the Forest' installation. The dramatic shadows cast on the floor are an integral part of the design, creating a dynamic and immersive environment that soothes and heals.
About Sensory Environments
Our sensory installations are built to order, requiring significant lead time for material sourcing and hand-crafted fabrication. We typically begin by mapping out your core narrative, which allows us to determine the exact balance of textile density, lighting intensity, and structural armature needed to translate your vision into a physical space before any fabrication begins.
At Wari Watai, we view space not as a static container, but as a living medium. Over the last decade, our work has been defined by a constant interrogation of materials—be it copper, mulberry silk, or reclaimed soil—to create environments that move the viewer. Whether we are constructing a pavilion for a brand launch or a private, introspective sanctuary, our methodology remains rooted in the belief that design should be felt before it is understood.
Our Approach to Immersive Design
We specialize in translating complex stories into physical architecture. This involves a rigorous process of material research, prototyping, and collaboration with specialized craftspeople.
- Narrative Mapping: Every project starts with a dialogue about the story you wish to tell. We then plot the spatial circulation, ensuring that the visitor's physical journey through the space matches the emotional arc of your narrative.
- Materiality & Light: We are known for our control of light, shadow, and texture. By manipulating the opacity of fabrics and the rigidity of metal armatures, we create zones of transition that shift as the visitor moves through them.
- Hand-Crafted Fabrication: Our work relies on artisanal techniques. We integrate hand-stitching, felting, and traditional weaving into modern structural frameworks. This commitment to the 'handmade' ensures that no two installations are identical, providing a depth of detail that mass-produced exhibition design often lacks.
We operate across India, with our base in Koramangala, Bengaluru. From high-footfall exhibition pavilions to intimate experiential rooms, we manage the entire lifecycle of the installation—from conceptualization and digital visualization to on-site rigging and sensory tech integration. If you are looking to create an environment that challenges the boundary between art and space, we are here to help you shape that narrative.
Wari Watai
We are Wari Watai, a Bangalore-based design studio that thrives on finding stories in raw materials like copper, silk, and soil. For ten years, we have been crafting immersive spaces that blur the lines between art and environment, treating every installation as a piece of visual poetry.
