At Wari Watai, we believe design is an ongoing conversation. This collection pulls back the curtain on our studio practice, our collaborative curation, and the material explorations that transform abstract concepts into tangible, sensory worlds.

About The Studio: Curation & Process

Our studio practice often begins not with a brief, but with a question about the raw potential of a material. Whether we are guest-curating for events like Raw Collaborative or designing immersive spaces for ColourNext, we prioritize this research-first approach. We build a dialogue between disparate artists and textures—mixing reclaimed plywood, copper, or soil—to create a narrative landscape that invites engagement rather than passive observation.

For us, design is not merely the assembly of objects but a continuous act of storytelling. Our curation work, notably projects like the 'Intersection' exhibit, functions as a study in contrast. We deliberately place handcrafted ceramic lamps against raw brick walls and position large-scale wooden sculptures to force a conversation between industrial space and artistic intent.

This same rigor applies to our spatial design installations. Before a single piece is fabricated, we engage in intensive material research and prototyping. This ensures that every tactile element—from the way fiber weaves over copper wire to the specific lighting used to cast shadow—serves the overarching emotional goal of the project. We operate in the fluid space where architecture meets art, ensuring that when a visitor enters a space we have designed, they feel the intent behind every curve and texture.

Our collaborative process is equally fundamental. By connecting with diverse artists and partners, we expand our creative vocabulary and challenge our own assumptions. This ethos of perpetual discovery is why our team continues to push into new mediums, whether that means working with biomaterials like salt or utilizing digital art to enhance physical spaces. We invite you to view our portfolio not just as a series of finished works, but as a map of the ongoing experiments that define our practice.
