Hands-On Lighting Workshops in Mumbai
I teach photography by slowing down. My workshops focus on the harmony of light and color, guiding you through practical setups so you can create images that feel honest and real.
This is what a typical workshop setup looks like. I guide students through each step, from placing the key light to adjusting the fill, ensuring you get a practical understanding of how to control light for portraits and beauty shots.
A moment of collaboration during a workshop. We work together to understand how light and shadow play, using tools like this large softbox to create a gentle, wrapping light that is perfect for soft portraits.
My studio space, ready for a day of learning. It is a simple, focused environment where we can experiment with different lighting equipment, from Godox strobes to various light modifiers, without any distractions.
A look into a beauty and hair photography session, which is a key topic in my advanced lighting workshops. We focus on creating high-key lighting that makes skin and hair look flawless straight out of the camera.
An essential part of my professional workflow is shooting tethered. In my workshops, I teach you how to connect your camera to a laptop for instant review, which helps in refining lighting and composition in real-time.
Here, I am demonstrating how to use a simple prop to bounce light back onto the subject. It is these small, practical techniques that can elevate a portrait and give it a professional, polished feel.
Creating a soft, quiet mood with diffused light. This setup is perfect for capturing gentle, emotive portraits, and I teach how to achieve this look using simple modifiers and careful subject direction.
Capturing the poetry of a moment. This behind the scenes shot shows the full team at work, with the camera operator and me working in sync to bring a creative vision to life through careful lighting and composition.
About Hands-On Lighting Workshops
You won't find a room full of people sitting through a long lecture here. In my workshops, we get behind the camera immediately to work with professional models in my Andheri West studio. I guide you through 10 distinct lighting setups, from softboxes to beauty dishes, so you learn to read how light shapes a face and texture. It is a space for you to slow down, practice these techniques with me, and see how the light changes the mood of a portrait in real-time.
Photography is often treated as a race to get the shot, but I believe the best work happens when you are patient. My workshops are built on this philosophy. We don't just talk about gear; we use it to understand how to control the environment.
What we focus on
- 10 Foundational Setups: We break down lighting for portraits, fashion lookbooks, and beauty photography. You will learn to use softboxes, octaboxes, and beauty dishes to create anything from high-key, flawless skin tones to dramatic, moody portraits.
- The Workflow: I teach tethering, which is essential for commercial work. You will see how connecting your camera to a laptop allows for instant review and precision in your lighting adjustments.
- Post-Production: We move into my minimal retouching workflow, focusing on frequency separation and dodge and burn techniques. The goal is to keep skin texture clean and organic, avoiding the over-processed look that is so common today.
- The Business of Photography: Technique is half the battle. We also cover how to price your work for the Indian market, how to negotiate with commercial clients, and how to build a portfolio that attracts the right projects.
The Environment
We keep our batches small, with only 8 to 12 students per workshop. This ensures that you have time to ask questions, fix your lighting angles, and get direct feedback. Whether you are struggling to replicate a mood you have seen in a reference image or need to understand how to guide a subject, this is a hands-on session designed to bridge the gap between theory and your professional reality.
