Bring a touch of Channapatna's 200-year-old craft to your workspace. From our 'Gyaani Goobe' owl pen stands to quirky artisan note holders, these wooden companions are handcrafted to make your desk feel a little more human.

For a desk that is anything but boring, meet our Channapatna pen stand gang. Featuring Flappy the Elephant, Buzzwing the Dragonfly, and Hootley the Night Writer, these handmade companions are perfect for holding pens and adding personality.

Our 'Gyaani Goobe' or wise owl pen stands are one of our most loved and evergreen designs. Each one is handcrafted by artisans from Channapatna using traditional lac-turnery techniques and non-toxic vegetable colors.

Our quirky animal note holders are perfect for keeping track of to-do lists and important reminders. This trio, featuring a bee, elephant, and pig, adds a playful touch to any desk while being entirely functional.

This unique keychain holder features our signature 'Gubbis' or sparrows. Painstakingly handcrafted, each birdie can hold a keychain, making it a statement piece for an office entryway or a personal desk.

Our 'Gubbi' paperweights are designed in different colors and forms. They are not only functional as paperweights but also serve as quirky message boards or photo holders, making them beautiful and practical festive gifts.

These cute 'Gubbi' paperweights also function as message boards. They make great festive gifts, adding a splash of color and utility to any desk.

Our Memory Mates are tiny wooden animals handcrafted to hold more than just notes. They keep memories, to-do lists, and photographs, serving as an everyday cheer squad for your desk.

About this collection

These aren't mass-produced desk accessories. Each piece, like our signature 'Gyaani Goobe' owl, is hand-turned by artisans using medicinal Wrightia Tinctoria wood and natural vegetable dyes. They are safe, sustainable, and built to last—a gentle reminder that honest craft belongs in the office just as much as it belongs in the home.

More Than Just Stationery

When we started Varnam, the goal wasn't just to make toys. We wanted to see if the 200-year-old lac-turnery craft of Channapatna could find a home on the desks of the modern professional. We believe that what you keep on your desk says something about you—your taste, your values, and your appreciation for the hands that made the objects you use every day.

Meet the Makers

Every note holder or pen stand you see here is a result of a collaboration with artisans like Hameed and Pallavi. When you choose a 'Tunti Tuntas' note holder or a 'Kuruvi' paperweight, you are supporting a workshop, not a factory assembly line. We treat these items as functional art:

  • Medicinal Wood: We use Aale Mara (Wrightia Tinctoria), known for its antibacterial properties.
  • Natural Dyes: Our finish uses natural vegetable dyes, making them safe for everyone.
  • Storytelling Packaging: For gifting, we use reusable kora pouches or Kraft boxes, accompanied by a card explaining the heritage of the piece.

Curating Your Space

Whether you are looking for a singular 'Oinkston' money bank to teach your children the habit of saving, or a curated set of wooden accessories for corporate gifting, we focus on 'the joy of just enough'. We don't believe in shouting design. We believe in the curve of a lid, the steady hand of an artisan, and the quiet satisfaction of owning something that feels like home.
