About Open Water & Sea Swimming
When you move from the pool to the sea, the game changes. You stop relying on lane lines and start needing to sight—lifting your head just enough to navigate the swell without killing your momentum. In our sea sessions, we drill this repeatedly so you learn to read the waves rather than fighting them, keeping your stroke rhythm intact even when the water gets choppy.
Training for the Open Water
Most swimmers find the transition to the sea intimidating because the water is unpredictable. My philosophy is simple: you cannot fight the ocean, but you can learn to work with it. My open water program, based out of Versova, is designed to turn that fear into focus.
What We Focus On
- Sighting Techniques: We train you to lift your eyes just enough to orient yourself without dropping your hips or breaking your stroke rhythm.
- Handling Surge & Currents: Learn how to stay calm when the water pushes you off course. We work on maintaining a steady catch and pull, even in turbulent conditions.
- Mental Conditioning: The ocean requires a different mindset than a controlled pool environment. We coach you through deep-water anxiety, teaching you to trust your breath and your buoyancy.
- Acclimatization: We run specialized sea sessions that simulate race conditions. This is where you practice drafting, managing the cold, and handling the chop of the Mumbai coast.
