Master the fundamentals of Shotokan karate through disciplined Kihon and precision Kata, building the physical strength and mental focus required for every martial artist.

A black belt student performs a pre-arranged fighting techniques demonstration. This solo Kata showcases a sequence of movements against an imaginary opponent, honing her form and focus.

Our students practice in unison, developing teamwork and synchronized timing. Here, they hold a strong kiba-dachi (horse stance), a fundamental stance for stability and power.

This video demonstrates Chudan Kosa Zuki, or middle-level cross punches. This is a fundamental Kihon drill for developing coordination and power in our strikes.

A demonstration of San Yoko Zuki, or three-direction punches. This traditional OSKI technique teaches students to generate power while changing direction, a key skill for combat.

A student demonstrates a perfect blocking technique in a deep zenkutsu-dachi stance. Proper form is the essence of true martial arts, and we insist on its mastery.

About this collection

In our dojo, we do not advance you to the next belt until your Kihon is crisp. You will practice repetitive movements like Sanbon Zuki and deep stances until the form is second nature. We emphasize that proper technique is not about winning points; it is about building the structural stability you need to stay firm when life tests you.

The Foundation of Shotokan

Kata and Kihon are not merely exercises; they are the vocabulary of karate. Kihon, or basics, is where the discipline starts. Whether it is Sanbon Zuki or perfecting your Zenkutsu-dachi stance, these repetitive drills build muscle memory that becomes instinctive in real-life situations.

Why Technique Matters

Many see martial arts as a path to a black belt, but the true growth happens in the daily practice of forms. When we perform Kata, we are fighting imaginary opponents with full intent. This requires absolute focus and spatial awareness.

  • Stability: We train on specific EVA puzzle mats to ensure your stances, like Kiba-dachi, provide a solid base for power generation.
  • Precision: Every block and punch is measured. We ensure your upper-body mechanics align with your footwork.
  • Adaptability: These traditional techniques are the same ones we adapt for our self-defense programs, ensuring you learn practical skills, not just theory.

Your Journey at Temple of Martial Arts

Whether you are training at our Bannerghatta Road facility or our Kumaraswamy Layout dojo, the expectation remains the same: effort and respect. You will train alongside others who are serious about their progress, from beginners learning their first blocks to senior students refining their advanced Katas. We encourage students to leave their fears at the door and focus entirely on the movement. If you are ready to stop looking for shortcuts and start building genuine strength, our dojo is where you belong.
