Figurative Art and Charcoal Sketches in Bangalore
Explore personal studies of form and expression. These pieces capture the raw emotion behind human figures through charcoal, pencil, and ink.
A charcoal study of the human form from my workbook. These trials are essential for me to practice shading, anatomy, and conveying emotion through posture.
A rough, expressive ink sketch of a man smoking. This style uses sharp, angular lines to create a raw and gritty feel.
An early charcoal trial exploring movement and freedom. I used loose, energetic strokes to capture the feeling of hair tossing in the wind.
A charcoal sketch of a tribal woman. This piece was an exercise in capturing strength and beauty through detailed adornments and a powerful gaze.
A charcoal trial of a Rajasthani bride. I was exploring how to convey emotion and tradition through the eyes and the partial covering of the face.
A simple charcoal sketch focusing only on the eyes. So much of a person's story can be told through their eyes, and I often practice capturing their expression.
A pencil sketch of a classical dancer. This piece was about capturing the grace and elegance of traditional Indian dance forms through fine pencil work.
About this collection
My process for these figurative studies relies on a direct approach, mapping out features before building the shading. I always share a work-in-progress image, and with one minor revision included, we can adjust the expression or composition to match exactly what you envisioned before I finalize the drawing.
I approach every figurative study not just as a drawing exercise, but as a way to capture a person’s story. Whether it is a charcoal sketch of a dancer or an intricate pencil portrait, the focus remains on the eyes and posture to convey authentic emotion. For my portrait commissions in Bangalore, I use acid-free 140 to 200 GSM paper to ensure the artwork lasts. The charcoal work, in particular, requires a specific sealing process with fixative sprays, which I handle myself to prevent smudging.
If you are looking for custom art, I work closely with you during the drafting phase. We start with your reference photos, and I translate the key details onto the canvas. While I have a set style for these figurative studies, I am always open to adapting the technique—be it realistic, raw, or minimalist—to suit the space where the art will live. My work ships across India, and I ensure every piece is packed in reinforced envelopes or tubes to keep it safe in transit.
