When the monsoon clouds descend, the Sahyadris transform into a realm of thunderous waterfalls and emerald peaks. This is my aerial exploration of the Western Ghats.

My favourite waterfall? The mighty Kalu Waterfall in Malshej Ghat. It drops from a height of around 1200 feet, and capturing its full, thunderous glory during the peak monsoon is an exhilarating challenge.

This is my kind of therapy. Standing on the edge of the cliff overlooking the Kalu Waterfall, you truly feel alive. This is the feeling I chase and capture with my drone.

The Zenith Waterfall in Khopoli, cascading down the rock face in multiple steps. The monsoon brings these hills to life, and I love capturing the journey of the water from the top to the plunge pool below.

Have you been to Devkund Waterfall? It's a plunge waterfall into a crystal-clear pond, hidden deep inside a forest. The trek is as beautiful as the destination, and an aerial view reveals its secluded magic.

Heaven is a myth, Sahyadri is real. This is a sentiment I truly believe in, especially when I am flying my drone over these incredible monsoon landscapes in Maharashtra.

Sahyadri, you beauty. This video captures the feeling of being enveloped by the monsoon clouds, with waterfalls appearing like magic through the mist.

The Daityasur Waterfall near Karjat, seen here under dramatic monsoon clouds. The name itself is formidable, and the waterfall lives up to it, plunging down a sheer cliff face.

A closer look at Daityasur Waterfall. The contrast between the dark, wet rock and the vibrant green foliage is something I love to highlight in my aerial cinematography.

A wide shot of Daityasur Waterfall, showing its place within the larger valley. This perspective helps to tell the story of the landscape and the power of the water that shapes it.

Another angle of Daityasur Waterfall, capturing the full drop from the cliff edge to the base. Each angle offers a new appreciation for its scale and beauty.

About Sahyadri Monsoon Magic

Flying in the Sahyadris during the monsoon requires more than just a camera. The mist rolls in without warning, and wind speeds at cliff edges are unpredictable. I use high-end gear to handle these conditions while maintaining strict safety protocols as a DGCA certified pilot. When you hire me for a monsoon shoot, we aren't just chasing a frame; we are working with the weather to catch that precise moment when the clouds break over the waterfalls.

The Monsoon Challenge

The Western Ghats in the rain are beautiful but demanding. Shooting waterfalls like the Kalu or Daityasur involves high humidity and sudden gusts of wind. As a DGCA certified pilot, I do not just fly; I plan for the conditions. I use the DJI Mavic 3 to ensure stability in wind, shooting in D-Log to capture the full dynamic range of the dark, basalt rock against the lush green foliage.

Why Aerial Perspectives Matter

Ground-level photography captures the sound, but aerial views capture the scale. Whether it is the 1200-foot drop of Kalu Waterfall or the secluded plunge pool of Devkund, the drone reveals patterns—the way the water carves the rock and how the mist interacts with the valley—that are invisible from the trekking trail.

My Approach to Your Shoot

I don't believe in rushed shoots. Monsoon light changes by the minute. My approach involves:

  • Safety First: I assess wind speeds and visibility before every take-off. Crowd safety is a priority if we are shooting popular spots.
  • Cinematic Workflow: I shoot in 4K/60fps to allow for smooth slow-motion, which is essential for capturing the fluidity of monsoon water.
  • Color Grading: I handle all post-production in Premiere Pro, ensuring the raw footage reflects the mood of the Sahyadri landscape.

If you want to showcase the Sahyadris, let's talk about the logistics of getting the perfect shot during the rainy season.
