Aerial Cultural & Festival Documentation
Festivals hold a rhythm that is only visible from above. I use my drone to freeze the chaotic beauty of traditions, revealing patterns and scales that disappear at ground level.
Capturing the chaos and color of Holi in Braj from above is an experience like no other. It’s a vibrant explosion of devotion and joy, and getting this top-down aerial shot required navigating a crowded airspace to freeze this perfect moment of celebration.
This is the Quang Phu Cau incense village in Vietnam, a sea of red and a testament to tradition. Capturing cultural practices from an aerial perspective reveals patterns and a scale unseen from the ground. It’s a powerful way to tell a story about people and their craft.
The war of Holi at Nandgaon. My drone flew right into the heart of the action, capturing the moment colors explode over the temple courtyard. It was a challenge to fly with 20 other drones in the air, but the shot was worth it.
Colors of Devotion: Braj Holi. This is more than just a festival; it's a deeply spiritual and emotional experience. The aerial view helps capture the collective energy of the celebration.
A cloud of yellow and blue gulal erupts from the crowd during Holi. These are the moments I live for, capturing the peak of the action from a perspective no one else has.
A top-down view of the temple in Barsana, the epicenter of the Holi celebrations. The entire town seems to radiate outwards from this central point of devotion.
A closer top-down shot of the temple courtyard during Holi. You can see the ground is completely covered in a carpet of pink and red colors.
A cloud of purple smoke rises from the crowd. Flying a drone in these conditions is risky, with colors and water everywhere, but it's the only way to get these immersive shots.
नंदगाव की होली. A video that takes you from a wide view of the town down into the heart of the colorful chaos in the temple square.
Braj Ki Holi 2024. A vertical video showing the scale of the celebration, from the top-down view of the town to the intense color-throwing in the streets.
About Cultural Canvas: Festivals & Traditions
Flying a drone during events like Holi in Nandgaon involves more than just camera settings; it requires navigating a crowded sky where dozens of other drones are often operating simultaneously. My priority is maintaining strict safety protocols while finding the exact angle that reveals the heart of the celebration, ensuring I capture the intense energy of the crowd without disrupting the flow of the festival.
Aerial cinematography brings a new language to cultural documentation. When thousands gather for a festival like Braj Holi, the view from the ground is a blur of motion and color. From the sky, it becomes a canvas. I specialize in finding these geometric patterns, such as the way a town radiates outward from a central temple or the specific density of a crowd during an eruption of gulal.
Beyond the intensity of Indian festivals, I also document traditions globally, like the rhythmic, intricate scale of the Quang Phu Cau incense village in Vietnam. Whether it is a vibrant street celebration or a disciplined cultural practice, my work focuses on structure and motion.
My equipment is calibrated for these high-energy environments. I prioritize high frame rates, recording in 4K at 60fps or 120fps, to capture slow-motion clarity during active moments. I use D-Log color profiles to ensure the final footage retains the depth of those intense reds, pinks, and yellows. For event organizers or documentary creators looking for this perspective, I bring not just technical expertise, but a deep respect for the event itself, ensuring my flight paths remain unobtrusive to the participants below.

I don't just fly a drone; I look for the soul of a place. Whether it's the chaotic color of Holi or a quiet morning in a distant village, I’m chasing the feeling of a moment that’s gone in a blink.
