Our Design Philosophy and Creative Process
Every home begins with a conversation about how you live, not just how you want a room to look. Here is a look at what drives our choices, from material experiments to the art we create for our clients.
Here I share my thoughts on material innovation at a designer's roundtable. I believe pushing boundaries with materials, like exploring the potential of transparent concrete, is what leads to truly exciting and futuristic architecture.
A behind-the-scenes moment of our founder and artist, Suraj Manik, with the diptych he painted for the Lumen House dining room. We often create custom art to ensure every element in a space is cohesive and meaningful.
About this collection
When we cannot find the exact piece to anchor a room, we create it. For projects like Lumen House, I personally handle the artwork to ensure the color palette and texture flow seamlessly with the furniture we build. It means you get a home that feels entirely complete, with details that were thought through from the first sketch rather than added as an afterthought.
At Tank, we treat architecture as a blend of science and storytelling. Our process is rooted in the philosophy of quiet luxury, where the goal is to reduce visual noise while maximizing functionality. We start every project by understanding your daily routine, which dictates the hidden storage, furniture zoning, and lighting plans that we develop.
Material experimentation is central to our work. Whether we are discussing the potential of transparent concrete or the warmth of ash wood veneer, we select materials based on their ability to age well and contribute to a calm environment. We do not believe in empty, cold minimalism. We add soul through textures, brass inlays, and statement pieces that give the space a unique identity.
Transparency is our default mode. You will see detailed 3D renders of your home before we begin any work. This allows us to align on the vision, lighting placement, and material finishes, ensuring that the reality of your space matches the concept. We take care of the heavy millwork and custom furniture in-house, giving us full control over the execution. Whether you are in Mumbai or elsewhere in India, our aim is to turn your space into a personal oasis that functions as beautifully as it looks.
Tank Design
I am Suraj, the lead designer behind Tank. I do not believe in following trends. Instead, I focus on engineering quiet, light-filled spaces where every element, from the hidden storage to the art on your walls, serves a clear purpose.
