Practical Ground Defense and Escaping Holds
Stop the freeze response. Learn to turn an attacker's weight against them using leverage, not brute strength, in real-life scenarios.
In a ground attack situation, your mind is your greatest weapon. I simulate real-life scenarios to teach you how to use your entire body for defense, striking with your heels and using your legs to control the attacker. You must not give up; you must fight to survive.
A choke or an attack on the neck is terrifying, but there are effective ways to counter it. I teach how to deflect the initial attack, strike a vulnerable point on the neck to stun the opponent, and then execute a takedown. A grounded opponent is less of a threat.
A surprise grab from behind can cause you to freeze. We practice this scenario repeatedly so your reaction becomes instinct. This technique shows how to quickly unbalance your attacker and break their grip, turning their attack into your advantage.
About Ground Defense and Escaping Holds
When you are pinned on the ground, your size does not matter. That is when the 'freeze' response kicks in, and that is exactly the moment you must break. I train you to use your heels, knees, and awareness to disrupt an attacker's balance and create a gap. It is not about winning a fight; it is about creating the split-second you need to get up and run. Whether you are in my Malad studio or a corporate seminar, these movements are designed to be intuitive enough to use under extreme stress.
Mind Over Muscle
Usko mental fitness bolte hain (We call that mental fitness). Most people fail to defend themselves because they panic. My workshops focus on training your brain to stay calm while your body executes the move. If you panic, you freeze, and the fight is over. We replace that panic with muscle memory.
The Mechanics of Escape
We do not rely on brute strength because you might face a larger opponent. Instead, we use Taekwondo principles adapted for the street:
- Ground Defense: If you are knocked down, we train you to use your legs and heels to strike vital points while keeping the attacker at a distance.
- Breaking the Grip: Whether it is a wrist grab or a bear hug from behind, we use leverage points to break the attacker's hold instantly.
- Targeting: I teach you to strike vulnerable areas—the neck, eyes, and groin—to neutralize the threat and give you time to escape.
Why Taekwondo Training?
People think Poomsae is just a sport, but it is actually a toolkit for survival. Every block, strike, and turn in my forms translates to a real-world self-defense movement. In my sessions in Malad West, we don't just memorize forms; we apply them to real-life threats like street harassment or sudden physical attacks.
Workshop Formats
I offer several ways to train, whether you are looking for a deep dive or a quick skill-up:
- 1-Day Women's Self-Defense Workshop: A 3-hour intensive session covering ground defense and anti-abduction techniques.
- Private Combat Sessions: 60-minute 1-on-1 sessions at my Malad studio, tailored to your specific physical limitations and safety concerns.
- Corporate Seminars: On-site training for offices, focusing on situational awareness and workplace safety.
Sachin Kumar
I am Sachin Kumar. I have trained in South Korea, but in my Malad studio, we do not play games. I teach you how to protect your life when you are caught off guard, using the same Taekwondo forms you might think are just for the mat.
