You don't need just kicks, you need the right form. Whether it's Naeryeo Chagi or a perfect back kick, I break down every move so you learn to execute with power, speed, and safety right here in Malad West.

This is a tutorial for the Axe Kick, or Naeryeo Chagi. I am showing my student how to bring the leg up straight and high, touching the thigh to the chest, before bringing it down with force on the target.

Here we are drilling the Back Kick, or Dwit Chagi. I am instructing my students to keep their knee and toes pointing downwards and to strike with the heel for maximum power and accuracy.

The Camel Walk Inchworm Pushup is an excellent exercise for building hamstring flexibility and upper body strength. I am demonstrating the correct form, keeping the knees straight and bending from the waist.

Many people ask me how to use a skipping rope correctly. In this tutorial, I explain the basics: rotate from the wrist, keep your body light, and land on the balls of your feet to build stamina and endurance effectively.

This is my dojang, where the training happens. The punching bag, cones, and rings are all tools we use to build well-rounded athletes, ready for any challenge.

Pad work is essential for developing power and precision. Here, I am holding the kicking pad for a student as he practices a high kick, ensuring he makes solid contact with the correct part of his foot.

The punching bag is a great tool for practicing power kicks. My students are drilling their roundhouse kicks, focusing on turning the base leg and generating force from the hip.

About Technique Tutorials & Kick Breakdowns

A powerful kick is 20% leg strength and 80% mechanics. When you see me correcting a student's base leg during a roundhouse, it’s not just for show—it’s about balance and generating force from the hip rather than just the shin. If you’ve ever felt like your kicks lack snap or you lose your footing on impact, it’s usually because you’re rushing the chambering phase. In my sessions, we focus on drilling these micro-movements until they are muscle memory.

Understanding the Mechanics

Taekwondo is a game of precision. Whether we are drilling Dwit Chagi (Back Kick) or Naeryeo Chagi (Axe Kick), the goal is the same: efficiency.

  • The Base Leg: Most students focus entirely on the kicking leg. You must learn to pivot the base leg to unlock your hip. If you don't turn that foot, you limit your range and risk injury.
  • Chambering: This is where the speed comes from. Bringing the knee to your chest before the strike hides your intent and builds potential energy. Do it fast, and you hit like a whip.
  • The Follow-Through: Kicking through the target, not at it, is the difference between a point and a foul.

Why Technique Matters

I train students to compete, and referees look for clean, controlled strikes. A sloppy kick won't score points at the district or state level, regardless of how hard you throw it. My tutorials focus on the why—why your heels need to be down, why your gaze must be fixed, and why you must control your breathing (Hana! Dul! Set!).

Conditioning for Technical Performance

Technique falls apart when you get tired. That is why our classes at the Malad West dojang combine technical drills with HIIT conditioning. We use agility ladders, skipping ropes, and resistance bands to ensure that your technical form holds up even in the final minute of a match.

If you are ready to stop guessing and start training with intention, come to the dojang. We train hard, we stay disciplined, and we build champions.
