At Svadhyaya, sustainability isn't a lecture—it’s how we live. From our zero-waste art sessions to community projects in Jayanagar, we help kids experience what conscious living looks like in the real world.

Here are three simple ways we ensure our art sessions are sustainable. We use non-plastic tools, source natural supplies for our colors, and ensure zero waste by reusing every material.

Our youngest volunteer, at just 4.5 years old, speaks passionately about the zero-waste initiatives for the Kadalekai Parishe festival. This is what learning through real-world participation looks like.

A moment of deep engagement during our sustainable marketplaces project. Facilitators and children discuss ideas, working with miniature bricks to reimagine a community space.

Using natural and found materials to create art. This activity was part of our project to explore sustainable design, teaching children to see creative potential in everyday objects.

For us, sustainability is not just a value, it's a way of life. Our nature camps are an opportunity for children to experience this firsthand, immersed in the outdoors.

About this collection

We don't just talk about recycling; we practice zero-waste by sourcing natural pigments for art, stitching cloth bags from discarded fabric, and rethinking how community spaces like the Jayanagar shopping area could function. When your child joins us, they aren't just listening—they’re redesigning models and composting their own snack waste to see the direct impact of their choices.

Sustainability is the heartbeat of our space. Whether it is our zero-waste art workshops or our nature camps where participants leave behind nothing but fruit peels, we teach kids to see resources differently. We believe that environmental education is built on curiosity, not just rules.

Learning Through Community Projects

Take our 'Sustainable Marketplaces' project. It was not a classroom exercise. Kids walked the streets of Jayanagar, interviewed vendors about their challenges, visited the Ragi Kana market, and used clay and upcycled materials to propose greener designs for the local shopping complex. They were not just playing; they were engaging with their own neighbourhood to solve real problems.

Our Philosophy

Instead of listing rules, we ask questions. How can we make colours from flowers? Why is plastic a problem? By swapping plastic tools for natural alternatives and making our own supplies, children learn that 'sustainable' is a verb. It requires patience, creativity, and a willingness to get messy. We invite you to bring your family to our Jayanagar centre to experience this firsthand. It is a space for dialogue, exploration, and building a conscious community together.

We are Team Svadhyaya, led by Bhavana Nagendra, and we believe learning is a joyful, messy journey rather than a race to the finish line. We started this space in Jayanagar because we wanted a place where children and adults could ask big questions and find answers by getting their hands dirty together.
