About Sushmitha Suresh, Bharatanatyam and Makeup Expert
I am Sushmitha Suresh. My work at Vivartana bridges the gap between traditional dance and the precision of stage makeup. Here is a bit more about my journey and my philosophy.
In this short interview, I share what inspires me about my work as a dance makeup artist. For me, it is the constant opportunity to create, innovate, and find freshness in this beautiful tradition.
Just me, taking a moment to say hello from my studio. Behind all the makeup and costumes, I am a dancer and teacher who is passionate about helping others shine.
About About Me
I do not see makeup as just an add-on; it is a vital part of your stage presence. Because I perform myself, I understand exactly why that wing liner needs to be symmetrical enough to cut through harsh stage lights and why your hair ornaments must stay put after hours of heavy footwork. When I style you, I am styling a dancer, not just a client.
I started Vivartana not just to teach, but to create a space where the arts breathe. Whether I am training a student in their first adavu or prepping a performer for an Arangetram, the focus remains the same—authenticity and endurance.
My dual expertise in Bharatanatyam and stage makeup allows me to approach your look from a performer’s perspective. I know the greenroom nerves, the specific pressure of a 90-minute recital, and the reality of dancing under high-wattage par lights. My goal is to ensure your makeup is as disciplined and sharp as your choreography.
Based in Malleshwaram, Bengaluru, with a base in Chennai, I work with dancers who want their abhinaya to reach the last row of the auditorium. I steer clear of generic beauty trends, focusing instead on traditional aesthetics that survive sweat, movement, and the intensity of a live performance. If you are looking for someone who understands both the art and the technicality of the stage, we should talk.
