Bharatanatyam is far more than grace and rhythm for me. It is a language. Having trained under my guru, Praveen Kumar, for years, I have learned that the true power of this art lies in the conversation between the dancer and the observer. Whether I am performing a traditional Varna at a venue like the Madras Music Academy or adapting a piece for a contemporary event, the technical precision remains non-negotiable.
Why Abhinaya Matters
Most dance performances focus on the steps, but I prioritize the abhinaya—the emotive storytelling. This is what makes a performance stay with people. It allows me to convey complex stories, mythology, or even modern themes through simple facial expressions and gestures. This skill set is the backbone of all my creative work, including my acting in films and commercial modeling.
