Nature is never just a backdrop. From the dense urban forests of Sanjay Gandhi National Park to the sprawling tiger reserves of Central India, these landscapes hold the secrets to the wildlife we cherish. Join me as we explore these vital ecosystems.

This is the stark, beautiful contrast of Mumbai's Sanjay Gandhi National Park. I stand on a ridge overlooking the dense forest, with the sprawling city in the background. It is a powerful reminder of why we must protect these urban wildernesses.

A panoramic view of the SGNP landscape, with the scarlet blooms of the Gulmohur tree painting the hillsides. This park is a world of its own, right at the edge of a metropolis.

The same frame in two seasons, part one. This is the forest of SGNP during the peak of the dry summer, a stark landscape of bare branches and parched earth.

And this is the very same spot transformed by the monsoon. The arrival of water brings an explosion of lush, vibrant green, demonstrating the incredible resilience of the forest.

A termite mound stands at the base of trees in the dry season. The forest floor is a carpet of brown leaves, a time of quiet waiting.

Here is the same termite mound after the rains. It is now surrounded by a sea of green ferns and fresh growth, a testament to the life-giving power of water.

A road through the park in the dry season. The trees are largely deciduous, and the landscape has a rugged, open feel.

The same road during the monsoon is almost a tunnel through a wall of green. The vegetation grows so thick it nearly swallows the path.

Looking up into the canopy of a dense forest within a tiger reserve. These tall, ancient trees are the pillars of the ecosystem, providing shelter and life for countless species.

An aerial view of a lake in Ranthambore, a vital water source in the dry landscape. My expeditions teach you to see the landscape from different perspectives to understand how animals use it.

About India's Wild Tapestry: Landscapes & Habitats

The photos here, showing the same patch of forest in SGNP during the dry summer and the monsoon, are the best way to understand how I lead my tours. I do not just point out animals for you to photograph. I teach you to read the forest floor, notice how the light changes the canopy, and understand why the seasonal shift is the true heartbeat of Indian ecology.
