Lucky Chan: Cinematic Restaurant Interior Design
We designed this space as a theatrical experience, layering bold neon, tactile materials, and custom lighting to create a brand narrative that feels alive.

The "You Dim Sum You Lose Sum" neon sign adds a playful, quirky touch that embodies the brand's voice. It acts as a fun photo opportunity for guests and reinforces the restaurant's casual, energetic atmosphere.
We used backlit mirrors featuring the 'Lucky' cat mascot to add a layer of brand storytelling. The red neon glow creates a dynamic and engaging visual element along the main seating bank.
The 'Sushi Express' neon sign clearly defines the sushi bar area, using lighting as a functional and thematic tool. This is paired with a dramatic, tiered tassel chandelier to make the bar a distinct destination within the restaurant.
We used a deep red arched facade to frame the view into the restaurant, creating a dramatic entrance. This architectural choice piques curiosity from the outside and draws people into the vibrant world of Lucky Chan.

The neon signage here serves a dual purpose beyond simple decor; it is our primary tool for zoning. By positioning the 'You Dim Sum You Lose Sum' glow specifically near the main seating, we draw the eye away from service and storage areas. This creates a powerful focal point that anchors the room's energy and defines the mood, ensuring the restaurant feels active rather than just furnished.
When we approach hospitality design, we treat the project as a form of storytelling. For Lucky Chan, the challenge was to create a cinematic environment that felt playful yet sophisticated. We moved away from traditional layouts, instead using a layered approach that guides guests through the space.
Lighting as a Narrative Tool
Lighting is never just about visibility. We used dramatic, deep red neon to set the scene, creating an intimate, high-energy atmosphere that changes the feel of the room from day to night. By integrating custom patterned lantern lights, we added a layer of geometry that contrasts with the softness of the red glow. This interplay of light allows us to carve out pockets of privacy within an open-plan restaurant, essential for a comfortable dining experience.
Materiality and Texture
We balanced the tech-forward neon with grounded, tactile materials. The combination of warm brick flooring and wood furniture provides a natural, organic contrast to the sleek signage. We integrated greenery as a living room divider, which helps absorb sound and adds a layer of freshness that softens the industrial edges of the space.
Designing for the Guest Journey
Every element, from the 'Sushi Express' signage to the tiered tassel chandelier, was placed to define specific dining zones. We wanted the space to feel like a personal gallery where every corner offers a new perspective. This methodology ensures that whether a guest is sitting at the bar or in a booth, they are fully immersed in the Lucky Chan world.
