Art, Materiality & Detail: The Soul of the Space
We believe a room is defined by the details that aren't immediately obvious—the grain of the wood, the depth of the lighting, the story behind an art piece. Let's look closer at how materiality transforms an environment.
This material and mood board for the Elevate Clubhouse is a tactile exploration of the project's palette. It combines wood flooring, stone samples, sculptural elements, and furniture forms to define the space's earthy yet sophisticated narrative.
A large, custom art piece depicting an Ace of Hearts adds a playful and surreal touch to this lounge area. Art is used here not just as decor, but as a conversation starter and a central feature that gives the space its unique character.
This video montage highlights the critical role of lighting in my designs. It shows how carefully planned lighting, both natural and artificial, can shape mood, define zones, and accentuate architectural details.
A video revealing the layers of the Elevate Clubhouse mood board. It animates how different materials, furniture pieces, and art come together to form a cohesive and layered design story.
This video collage focuses on the curated art and sculptural details within the Elevate Clubhouse. From wall art to outdoor statues, each piece is integrated to add meaning and cultural resonance to the space.
A close-up of a vibrant blue mosaic mural from a project in Goa. The intricate tilework and touches of gold create a rich, textured surface that tells a story of its coastal context.
A video showcasing the small but significant details that give a space its soul. It features close-ups of sculptures, art, fabric textures, and material finishes from various projects.
A video exploring the use of color in interior design. It demonstrates how different color palettes, from bold hues to soft, neutral tones, can dramatically shape the mood and feeling of a space.
Another video on the power of color, showing how a monochromatic space is transformed with the introduction of a warm, earthy color palette, bringing it to life.
A detail shot of a cafe's decor, where a simple table lamp stands against a colorful, hand-painted mural. This juxtaposition of simple form and artistic expression creates a charming vignette.
About Art, Materiality & Detail: The Soul of the Space
We do not select materials just for their appearance. In projects like the Elevate Clubhouse, we balanced clay-clad walls with Botticino stone and fluted tiles not just for aesthetics, but to create a sensory anchor. When you are planning your space, ask yourself: are the textures talking to each other, or are they just competing for attention?
Design is not just about the layout; it is about the tangible, sensory experience of a room. At Studio IAAD, we treat materiality as the foundation of architectural narrative. Whether we are designing an experience centre or a private residence, we focus on the interplay of light and texture to define how a user moves through and feels within a space.
Take the Godrej South Estate Experience Centre, where we used layered MDF plates to create a semi-permeable, sculptural facade. This was not merely decor; it was an architectural envelope that used narrow-beam lighting to manipulate shadows, giving the volume depth and character. We approach every material—be it warm wooden flooring in Emaar Digi Homes or the vibrant mosaics in our Goa projects—as a tool for storytelling.
Our process involves meticulous detailing. We coordinate MEP integration to keep aesthetic ceilings like baffles clean, and we use lighting to soften edges or define social zones without the hardware being visible. When you view a finished space, notice the quiet details: the brass inlay, the curve of a banquette, or how natural light hits a wall. These elements work in harmony to turn an empty room into a place that feels inhabited. Our aim is to build spaces where the architecture and the interior finishes are so well-integrated that you stop noticing the design and start enjoying the atmosphere.
Studio IAAD
We are Studio IAAD. Over eighteen years, we have learned that walls and floors are just the start; the real magic happens in the textures, the light, and the way a room makes you feel. We work with you to ensure that every corner of your space tells your story, not a catalogue's.
