Signature Spiky & Tripod Bowls
I design these bowls to be more than just dinnerware. They are hand-built, slightly wonky, and full of character—perfect for holding keys, jewelry, or just sitting on your table as a piece of art.
I have a special love for making these spiky bowls. Some find them a bit extra, but I see them as quirky, eye-catching pieces of functional art. They are perfect for holding everything from your morning fruit to your favorite jewelry.
A look at a three-legged bowl, freshly bisque-fired and ready for glazing. I find making these tripod bowls very meditative, and they are one of my favorite things to create late at night after a long day.
The process of making art is where the magic truly happens. Here, I am trimming and refining the spikes on a hand-built bowl, a slow and careful step that gives the piece its final character.
The satisfying sound of a bisque-fired tripod bowl. This is the stage where the clay has been hardened by the first firing, creating a blank canvas that's ready for the color and transformation of glazing.
About Signature Spiky & Tripod Bowls
These aren't your standard, factory-made bowls. I hand-pinch and coil every piece to create organic shapes that feel like art—whether it is the tripod legs elevating the vessel or the spiky edges that add a bit of personality to your kitchen counter.
I started making these because I wanted objects that felt alive. Unlike wheel-thrown pottery, which follows a perfect symmetry, my hand-built bowls embrace the 'wonky' side of things. Each piece is constructed using slow, manual techniques—pinching and coiling—which means you will see my finger marks and subtle imperfections. That is where the story sits.
Why they are different
These bowls are high-fired stoneware, glazed with imported Amaco finishes that change slightly in the kiln, ensuring no two pieces are ever identical. The tripod legs aren't just for aesthetics; they lift the bowl, giving it a sculptural presence on your coffee table or desk. The spiky bowls, meanwhile, have a bit of edge. While some might think they are just for display, they are entirely food-safe, microwave-safe, and dishwasher-safe. I use them for everything from holding my morning fruit to keeping my keys in one place.
The process
Every bowl spends days in my Powai studio. I spend hours trimming, refining, and waiting for the clay to reach the right consistency. It is a slow, quiet process, often done late at night. Because I don't use molds, the balance and the curve of each leg or spike are unique to the specific mood I was in when I made it. If you want something that looks like it came from a big-box store, this isn't it. If you want a piece of Mumbai clay that has its own personality, you are in the right place.
