Signature Entrance Design and Public Realm Architecture
An effective entrance does more than provide security. It acts as a transitional space, shifting the visitor's mood from the noise of the street to the composed environment of the site through light, greenery, and geometry.
A close-up of the drop-off area at the RRBC entrance plaza, highlighting the vertical green wall and the base of the sculptural water feature. This view shows the careful integration of biophilic design and modern materials to create a sophisticated and welcoming atmosphere.
This perspective of the RRBC plaza shows the floating walkway over the reflective water body, leading to a minimalist outdoor pavilion. The design uses cascading water features and carefully placed sculptures to guide movement and create a sense of tranquility and elegance.
The grand entrance gate for the Yamuna Asha City development. The design uses clean lines, integrated planters with climbing greenery, and prominent branding to create a modern and inviting gateway that sets a premium tone for the entire community.
The gateway for 'Suyug The 1' features twin towers with a dramatic, angled porte-cochère. My landscape design complements this modern architecture with lush, layered greenery and a wet-look driveway, seamlessly blending the built form with the natural environment.
The entrance to Letizia Park, designed to be a landmark in its urban context next to the metro rail. The minimalist tower and clean lines of the gate are softened by surrounding trees and plantings, creating a modern yet natural entry point.
The main entrance gate for the 'Siranu Letizia' apartments. The design uses a combination of concrete, wood-finish vertical slats, and integrated lighting on the lush planters to create a warm, contemporary, and secure sense of arrival for residents.
The main entrance to Marian Park in Mangaluru, where golden metallic fins create a visually striking and luxurious gateway. The design establishes a strong street presence, hinting at the sophisticated blend of architecture and landscape within the property.
The illuminated entry gate for Rohan Estate in Mangaluru, seen at dusk. The design combines modern perforated panels, warm backlighting, and integrated vertical light strips on the gate to create an elegant and secure entrance that is visually appealing day and night.
A conceptual sketch of the Rohan Estate entrance, showing the initial design intent. This illustrates how I balance security, branding, and aesthetics with integrated planters and seating to create a functional and welcoming gateway.
The facade of the Sea Front Business Hotel, designed to thrive in a humid coastal climate. The building's form, with its strategic openings and green terraces, facilitates cross-ventilation while offering guests panoramic sea views.
About Signature Entrances & Public Realms
My approach focuses on the transition from the street to the building. Whether it is the vertical green walls at the RRBC plaza or the geometric lighting at Rohan Estate, the goal is to manage the user's sensory experience. These elements serve as a functional gateway, providing identity and branding while physically softening the concrete structure with nature.
Defining the Arrival Experience
A property's entrance is its first point of communication. At Studio Naadi, we view the entrance plaza or gateway as a 'decompression chamber'—a space that mediates between the public realm and private sanctuary. By integrating structural elements with landscape design, we ensure that a gateway serves as a landmark rather than just an access point.
Our Design Methodology
- Biophilic Integration: We utilize vertical gardens, integrated planters, and canopy trees to mask the hardness of concrete. At projects like RRBC, the vertical green wall isn't decorative; it serves to soften the transition for vehicles and pedestrians.
- Lighting as a Narrative Tool: We avoid generic floodlighting. Instead, we use warm backlighting on panels, integrated vertical light strips, and ground-level illumination to guide movement. This was key in our design for Rohan Estate, where light defines the entrance at dusk.
- Material Honesty: We prioritize the tactile quality of a space. By combining metallic fins, concrete textures, and stone paving, we create a layered arrival experience that feels substantial and permanent.
Climate-Responsive Public Realms
In our coastal projects like the Sea Front Business Hotel in Mangaluru, public spaces must contend with humidity and salt air. We design for these realities by facilitating cross-ventilation and using durable materials that age gracefully. Our master planning for these sites extends beyond the gate, creating continuous paths and green corridors that connect the public entrance to the interior lobbies, ensuring the architectural language remains consistent throughout the property.
