About Landscape Architecture
How We See Landscape Architecture
I want buildings to feel like they belong to the land, not just sit on top of it. For me, the best spaces come from working with the site’s natural shape - not fighting it. Whether it’s a steep hillside in Uttarakhand or a tight plot in Delhi, I let the land guide the design. Sometimes, that means a home hugs the slope, or a courtyard opens up to the valley.
Working With Nature, Not Against It
- I love tricky sites - slopes, rocky ground, places where most people would flatten everything. Instead, I use terraced landscape design to step buildings and gardens down the hill, so nothing feels forced.
- My approach is about keeping things light. I embed parts of the building into the earth, so the landscape stays the hero.
- Big glass panes, open layouts - these blur the line between inside and outside, letting sunlight and views flood in.
Spaces That Feel Alive
- Courtyards and gardens are always at the heart. In crowded cities, I carve out green pockets for light and air. In the hills, I create stepped courtyards for bonfires, gatherings, or just soaking in the view.
- I use local stuff - stone, mud, rammed earth construction - so the building feels rooted.
Sustainability That’s Real
- Green roof architecture is a favourite. It’s not just eco-friendly, it helps the building blend into the hillside and keeps things cool inside.
- I build physical models of the land before starting, so I can see how everything fits and feels. It’s slow work, but worth it for a space that truly belongs.

My Story
Hey, we’re Studio HKAD. Our studio’s got this green courtyard - it’s not just a pretty spot, it’s where we breathe and think. We’re a bit old-school, always making models with our hands, figuring out how light falls, how spaces feel. There was this project in Himachal, felt like meditation just to get started, but seeing it blend into the mountains? Magic. We also hang out at colleges, keeps us sharp and connected.
My Work
What we do - We design architecture, interiors, and furniture for homes, offices, schools, and retreats.
Our way of working - We love contextual architecture design, minimal interior design, and blending buildings with the landscape.
Materials we use - We play with rammed earth construction, exposed concrete, brick, rattan, and steel - honest, raw stuff.
Hands-on process - Every project starts with handmade architectural models. We’re there, from the spark to the final nail.
