Bringing Nature Indoors: Interior Landscape Design

bySSDAStudio at Ghitorni, New DelhiView full gallery

We blur the lines between garden and home, transforming unused corners into vibrant, living sanctuary spaces.

We believe greenery shouldn't be confined to the outdoors. In this villa, we designed a small garden bed directly beneath the floating staircase, turning a simple circulation space into a vibrant focal point with lush plants and soft, spherical lights.

This design concept for an upcoming residence features a zen-like garden beneath a modern staircase. The combination of natural rocks, pebbles, and carefully selected plants, illuminated by a dramatic chandelier, creates a serene and artistic statement.

Another view of the under-staircase garden shows how it is framed by the home's architecture. The large glass wall behind it connects this indoor green space with the outdoor landscape, creating a multi-layered view of nature.

The dark wood of the staircase and wall paneling creates a moody and sophisticated backdrop for the indoor garden. The warm, integrated lighting highlights the textures of the rocks and plants, making it a captivating feature day and night.

About this collection

Bringing a garden indoors is more than just placing a plant in a corner; it requires precise understanding of drainage, light, and root space. We prioritize technical planning—from integrating seamless drainage points under staircases to choosing species that thrive in your home’s specific light conditions—to ensure your indoor greenery remains a living, breathing feature, not a maintenance headache.

Our approach to interior landscapes is rooted in the belief that nature should not be confined to the outdoors. When we integrate greenery into an interior layout, we look for spaces that connect with the architecture of the home—staircase landings, double-height voids, or central courtyards. These are not merely decorative zones; they are intentional micro-climates.

The Technical Side of Indoor Greenery

We avoid the common pitfall of 'decorative only' plant placement. Instead, our design process begins with a study of the light paths in your home. If a corner receives dappled morning light, we select shade-tolerant species that will flourish rather than struggle.

We also manage the heavy lifting of installation:

  • Waterproofing & Drainage: For indoor beds, we ensure robust waterproofing and concealed drainage systems that connect to the main plumbing, preventing dampness or leaks.
  • Soil & Environment: We use specialized soil mixes that reduce pests and maintain moisture, keeping your indoor garden fresh with minimal intervention.
  • Integration: Whether it is a planter bed beneath a floating staircase or a rock garden in a corner, the design is always structurally integrated into the home's finish.

This is about creating a dialogue between the indoors and the natural world, ensuring your home feels grounded, airy, and alive. If you are looking to introduce a permanent, flourishing touch of nature into your villa or residence in Delhi, we are here to walk you through the possibilities.
