The Soul in Monochrome: Fine Art Portraits in Bengaluru
Stripping away color reveals what lies beneath. These black and white portraits focus on raw energy, light, and form to create art that feels timeless.
A contemplative black and white profile, where the subject gazes thoughtfully out of the frame. The soft light traces the lines of her face and hand, highlighting a moment of quiet introspection.
A quiet, candid portrait of the late dance legend Padma Shri Astad Deboo. In this monochrome image, he is seen in a moment of reflection, his life's work and passion etched in his focused expression.
About The Soul in Monochrome
I never use harsh flashes for these black and white sessions, as I find they disrupt the natural energy of the moment. Instead, I rely entirely on ambient light and the organic grain of my Fuji cameras to create a raw, film-like texture that feels less like a digital photograph and more like a captured memory.
Black and white photography is a practice of subtraction. By removing the distraction of color, we are forced to look at the light, the shadows, and the expression on a person's face. It is where I find the most honesty.
My Approach to Monochrome
When you book a session for these fine art portraits, we are not just taking photos. We are engaging in a process. I treat these sessions as a form of therapeutic photography. There is no rushing, no forced posing, and certainly no artificial studio lighting. We work with the ambient light available in the space, whether that is a quiet corner of your home or a natural-light studio in Bengaluru.
The Process
After we shoot, I do not rush into editing. I disconnect for a week. This allows me to approach the raw files with fresh eyes, selecting the images that carry the most significant energy. I spend hours, sometimes days, refining each selected portrait. The final result is not merely a digital file, but an image meant to function as a yantra—a visual anchor that resonates with your spirit.
What to Expect
- Lighting: Strictly natural or ambient light to maintain an organic atmosphere.
- Texture: I embrace the natural grain of the sensor, which adds a painterly, timeless quality to the print.
- Deliverables: You receive high-resolution fine art portraits, often paired with museum-grade archival prints that are ready to hang.
This work is about capturing who you are, not just how you look. It is an invitation to be still, to breathe, and to see yourself clearly.
