Black and White Portrait Photography in Bangalore
Stripping back color to reveal the story underneath. My black and white studies focus on raw texture, high contrast, and the quiet moments found between the chaos.

About Black & White Studies
Black and white is not just a lack of color. It is a deliberate choice to focus on the essential. When we shoot without color, we stop relying on easy visual distractions and start paying attention to the way light catches the edges of a face or the texture of fabric. It makes the shoot more intimate. It demands that you bring a certain presence to the frame, and I bring the lighting setup to ensure that presence is captured with depth and contrast.
There is a strange dreamscape in monochrome that color cannot replicate. In my Bangalore-based studio and outdoor sessions, I look for these pockets of light. Whether we are shooting in a quiet field of tall grass or a textured urban street, the goal remains the same: to strip away the noise.
Why Monochrome Works
Color can sometimes pull the eye in too many directions. By removing it, we shift the focus entirely to the subject's expression, the composition, and the narrative. This is why I use black and white for portraits that need to feel timeless, moody, or cinematic.
My Technical Approach
- Lighting: I combine natural light with subtle artificial setups to create depth. For black and white, I look for high-contrast scenarios where the shadows have as much story to tell as the highlights.
- Post-Production: I do not just desaturate an image. I re-grade the contrast and texture, ensuring the skin tones retain their richness and the blacks feel deep rather than muddy.
If you have a concept that feels raw or melancholic, we can build a shoot around that specific mood. I am comfortable working in natural landscapes around the city or controlled studio environments to achieve the right look.
