Our Classical Music and Dance Heritage
A glimpse into how we blend music and movement. From the strict discipline of Carnatic vocal training to the expressive grace of Bharatanatyam, this is where our students find their voice.
This is your invitation to begin a new musical journey with me. My Carnatic vocal classes are designed for everyone, whether you are a complete beginner or a dancer looking to deepen your understanding of sruthi and laya. I offer both offline classes at my HSR Layout studio and online sessions.
A glimpse into the soul of our performances, where music and dance become one. Here, you see our live orchestra, featuring talented vocalists, the melodic flute, and the rhythmic pulse of the mridangam, all coming together to create a truly divine experience on stage.
The Guru-Shishya parampara is at the heart of everything I do. This moment of blessing an artist before they perform is a sacred part of our tradition, representing the passing of knowledge, love, and respect from teacher to student.
Here I am with my students, exploring the nuances of a piece set in Kedaragaula Ragam. For me, music is the breath of dance. Mastering the vocals and rhythm, as you can hear in the background, is what allows a dancer's movements to truly come alive.
People often ask me why I chose to teach. In this clip, I share my belief that Indian classical arts are a blessing, and it is my life's purpose to pass this beautiful tradition on to the next generation so they can experience its joy.
About Featured
If you are a dancer, you know that your movements are only as graceful as your understanding of the rhythm. That is why I teach Carnatic vocal—to help you find the Sruthi (pitch) and Laya (rhythm) that truly brings your dance to life. Whether you are learning to sing or to dance, mastering these foundations is what transforms a student into an artist.
For me, the journey into classical arts is a long one, and it is a path that requires patience. At Sreejaya's School of Classical Dance, we do not just teach steps or songs; we focus on the soul of the performance.
When we highlight these moments—be it a student learning a new Ragam or a stage performance at our annual Nrithya Sandhya—it is to show that music is the breath of dance. My Carnatic vocal classes in HSR Layout are designed to strengthen your focus, discipline, and understanding of melody. We work in small groups, focusing on the fundamentals like Sarali Varisais and Alankarams, ensuring every student gets the personal attention they need to correct their pitch.
Whether you are joining our offline weekend classes at the studio or our interactive online sessions, the approach remains the same. No shortcuts. Just pure, dedicated practice. You will see that once you grasp the pulse of the Laya, your confidence on stage will naturally grow. Many of our students who joined for dance have found that adding music lessons gave them a deeper connection to their own performance. If you have been waiting for the right time to start, I invite you to walk into our HSR studio and begin your own musical journey with us.
