About Bharatanatyam Classes
Why I Teach Bharatanatyam
Bharatanatyam is not just a dance for me - it’s a lifelong journey. I’ve spent years learning, practicing, and now, sharing this art with anyone who wants to experience it. Passing on what I know is my biggest joy.
What You’ll Learn
I teach Bharatanatyam as a language of expression, not just steps. You’ll pick up:
- Adavus (basic steps)
- Mudras (hand gestures)
- Aramandi (the half-sitting posture that’s tough but so important)
- Abhinaya (expressing stories and emotions - kannu aanallo ettavum important, the eyes matter most)
- Navarasa training (the nine emotions)
- The meaning and philosophy behind Bharatanatyam
Who Can Join
Kids, adults, beginners, or those coming back after a break - everyone’s welcome. There’s no age limit. I offer classes for all levels, including Bharatanatyam for adults.
How We Train
I follow the Kalakshetra style Bharatanatyam, focusing on strong basics and authentic technique. You’ll get a mix of theory and practice, and if you’re up for it, we help with Arangetram preparation too. Seeing students reach that milestone is oru santhosham (a unique happiness).
Performance & Recognition
Students get to perform at our annual Nrithya Sandhya and other events. Our school is UNESCO (CID) certified, so you know you’re learning from a place that’s serious about quality.
Flexible Learning
You can join online Bharatanatyam classes from anywhere, or come to our Bangalore centres. Your dance journey, your way.

My Story
We started Sreejaya's School of Classical Dance because dance is home for us. My film days with legends like Lalettan and Mammootty were lovely, but building this school with Madan was a dream. Here, students—my own daughter included—don’t just learn steps, they live Bharatanatyam. Our classrooms grew with every dancer who walked in. Anyone who wants to dance, just walk in. This is your family too.
My Work
Classes in Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music - We teach Bharatanatyam (Kalakshetra style) and Carnatic music for all ages, online and offline in Bangalore.
Traditional yet personal approach - Our focus is on bhava, raga, tala - not just perfect steps. Every student finds their own dance voice.
Never too late to start - Whether you’re 7 or 37, your stage is waiting. Serious learners, yes, it’s a long journey, but always possible.
From practice to stage - Students perform at Margam and Nrithya Sandhya, celebrating hard work and growth in Bharatanatyam stage performance training.
