Our Architectural Philosophy: Craft and Heritage
Architecture is not merely about building structures. It is a spatial story that we craft through meticulous detailing and intellectual rigour, ensuring every design element resonates with purpose.
At my studio, we believe in the power of hand-sketching. It is a holistic approach that allows us to think through complex ideas and communicate them effectively before moving to digital design.
A heritage walk with my team to Haveli Dharampura. These visits are essential for engaging with the essence of Mughal-style havelis and reflecting on the meticulous conservation work we undertake.
Exploring the bustling streets and architectural marvels of Old Delhi with my team. These heritage walks are a source of inspiration and a way to connect with the living history we strive to preserve.
I see my role in two ways: as a citizen of Delhi preserving our heritage, and as an architect contributing back to society. Here, I speak about how we are reviving buildings to give them back to the community.
It was an honor to be on the jury for the FOAID VOX Architecture Ideas Competition. Engaging with the next generation of design innovators is a vital part of contributing to our profession.
Discussing the plans for the Lahori Gate Museum at a press conference. My goal is to create a cultural hub that offers immersive insights into the history and life of Chandni Chowk.
We were honored to host former US Ambassador Eric Garcetti at Haveli Dharampura. His visit, featured in his farewell video to India, highlights the cultural resonance of our restoration work.
About this collection
At our studio, every project begins with a hand-sketch. Before a single digital line is drawn, my team and I break down complex structures into basic forms on paper. This slow, deliberate process allows us to think through spatial fluidity and material choices, ensuring that the final design is rooted in physical craft rather than just software efficiency.
My approach to architecture is grounded in a deep intellectual engagement with the site. We do not just design from a desk. My team and I conduct frequent heritage walks through the historic lanes of Old Delhi, particularly around areas like Chandni Chowk. These walks are not leisure activities but essential field studies. By observing the interplay of light in Mughal-style havelis, the scale of ancient courtyards, and the texture of centuries-old brickwork, we learn how to balance modern needs with historical continuity.
This methodology extends to our consultancy work. When we take on a project, be it an adaptive reuse venture or a private residence, we bring the same analytical rigour used in our heritage conservation. We engage with the history of the land, the cultural context of the user, and the technical requirements of modern utility integration. Whether we are mentoring the next generation of designers during industry competitions or speaking at forums about the future of our built environment, my goal remains constant: to revive spaces that feel alive, deeply personal, and rooted in their unique geography.
Kapil Krishan Aggarwal
I believe architecture is an extension of fine art. When you work with me, you are not just getting a floor plan, you are getting a narrative that connects your personal requirements to the site’s unique history and potential.
