The Construction Journey: From Foundation to Finish
I believe architecture happens on-site, not just in a studio. This is a look at the real progress of my projects, showing the structural precision behind every modern home and office I build.
The start of a new builder floor project in Delhi. This image shows the excavation and the placement of rebar for the foundation columns, the critical first step.
Another view of the foundation work, with reinforced columns rising from the ground. A solid foundation is essential for the integrity of the entire structure.
A short video showing a construction site where the foundation and ground-level brickwork are underway. This captures the active, early phase of a building's life.
This video clip documents the process of slab casting, with workers preparing the rebar mesh before concrete is poured. This is a key milestone in building the structure's floors.
An overhead view of shuttering, the temporary formwork used to mold concrete for the next floor's beams and slab. This grid-like structure is fundamental to multi-story construction.
A night shot of slab preparation. Construction work often continues after dark to meet project timelines, showing the dedication involved in every build.
A modern office space taking shape with brickwork. This image captures the raw beauty of the construction process against a dramatic sky.
About this collection
I do not just design plans and hand them off. I am on-site during critical phases like slab casting and foundation work to ensure the structural integrity matches the 3D renders. This phase is where technical drawings meet reality, and my role is to troubleshoot any unforeseen challenges before they become permanent problems.
Construction is where the design vision is tested against the reality of materials and labor. My approach prioritizes transparency in this process, ensuring you understand exactly what goes into your building before the final finishes are applied.
The Structural Foundation
Every project begins with a foundation analysis. Whether it is a builder floor in Delhi or a villa in Dehradun, I insist on rigorous site analysis. This includes soil testing, orientation studies for natural light, and precise column placement to ensure long-term stability. The rebar reinforcement and design-mix concrete I specify are based on structural calculations, not approximations.
MEP and Technical Integration
Before any wall is closed, we map out the internal infrastructure. My MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) strategy ensures that wiring loops and plumbing lines are concealed properly without compromising structural walls. Using fire-resistant copper wiring and CPVC piping is non-negotiable for the longevity of your home.
Precision in Execution
During the building phase, we utilize materials like AAC blocks for thermal insulation and quality TMT bars for steel reinforcement. Watching a building rise from a pit of raw earth to a structured facade is where my design philosophy of 'simplicity and clean lines' becomes a tangible reality. I coordinate everything from shuttering for slabs to the final application of exterior textures or stone cladding, ensuring the geometry we envisioned remains sharp and accurate.
Sumeet Malik Architects
I am the lead architect at S.M.A Architecture & Interiors. My work is not just about facades; it is about the grit and planning that happens while the building is still raw concrete and steel. I am personally involved in every stage, ensuring that what we design is exactly what gets built.
