Motifs of Mumbai Jewellery Collection

I turned the patterns I see on Bombay’s streets into jewelry you can actually wear. From pavement tiles to manhole covers, this is my love letter to the city.

This is where the idea for the 'Motifs of Mumbai' collection started. I saw the unique shape of these interlocking pavement tiles on a rainy day and was inspired to turn this overlooked, everyday pattern into a piece of jewelry.

A design sheet showing the various patterns and motifs that define the 'Motifs of Mumbai' collection. These designs are taken directly from manhole covers, window grilles, and pavement blocks found across the city.

Here I am with a karigar, working on pieces for the 'Motifs of Mumbai' collection. It was an exciting process to take these urban-inspired designs to traditional artisans and see them bring the vision to life.

About this collection

These designs are not just aesthetics, they are literal translations of Bombay’s urban fabric. I personally scout the city for interlocking pavement tiles, vintage window grilles, and industrial manhole patterns to create these rings and pendants. Every piece is cast in 925 Sterling Silver or premium brass by master karigars in Zaveri Bazaar, ensuring that the raw, heavy texture you see on the street translates into something you can actually wear.

I spent a lot of time just walking around, looking down at the ground instead of my phone. It sounds crazy, but those manhole covers and pavement tiles are the real heartbeat of the city. I wanted to capture that grit and history. Working with the karigars was a challenge, as they are used to traditional, intricate gold work, so asking them to mimic the rough texture of a concrete paving block was a wild conversation. But they killed it.

We use 925 Sterling Silver and high-grade brass to keep the pieces durable. The matte, oxidized finish is intentional. I didn't want these to look like mass-produced jewelry. I wanted them to look like they’ve seen the streets, just like us. Each pendant or ring comes with its own authenticity card, explaining the specific Mumbai location or object that sparked the design. Whether it’s a heavy box chain or a subtle ring, this gear is built to last and meant to be worn daily. No fluff, just honest design for people who know.
