Featured Press & Stories
From Travel + Leisure to The Word Magazine, here is where my work and the Frostbite Lab journey have been featured. Seeing people connect with the story behind our grillz is the best part.
Travel + Leisure did a deep dive into how Frostbite Lab started, remixing traditional Indian jewelry for a new generation. This feature covers my journey from a lockdown idea to a full-fledged custom design lab.
The Diet Paratha feature on the campaign with my parents was a huge moment. It highlighted the "sickest shoot" and helped show a different, more personal side of who can wear grillz.
A quote from my interview with The Word Magazine, explaining our design philosophy. I talk about using different language scripts, typography, and traditional Indian techniques like filigree work in our custom grillz.
This feature in The Nod Magazine talks about my dual life as a DJ and a jewelry designer making "jadau bling for your teeth." It covers the story of how I started the brand and my vision for making grillz an everyday accessory.
A Q&A snippet from my Travel + Leisure interview. I talk about my essentials, including a custom Frostbite USB case because branding always matters, even for my DJ gigs.
A screenshot from The Nod Magazine article, showing different styles of our custom grillz on a model. The article details my process, from learning on YouTube to connecting with a dentist to get the perfect fit.
Another excerpt from The Word Magazine feature. Here, I explain that every single grill is a one-of-a-kind piece designed in collaboration with the customer, because everyone has their own story to tell.
About this collection
It is not just about the media features; it is about shifting how people see Indian craft. When publications like The Nod or Diet Paratha pick up what we are doing, it validates the risk I took when I first told traditional Zaveri Bazaar karigars that we were going to make grillz instead of mangalsutras.
Bridging Two Worlds
When I started Frostbite Lab, I was just a DJ with an idea and a lot of questions. I wanted to see what would happen if I took the hip-hop swagger of grillz and combined it with the traditional Indian jewelry techniques I grew up seeing.
Getting press coverage from outlets like Travel + Leisure and The Word Magazine was never the end goal, but it has been a wild way to see the story land. These features highlight the real work that goes into every piece:
- Traditional Craft: We work with master artisans in Zaveri Bazaar who usually focus on intricate jadau and meenakari work. They had to learn a whole new approach to apply their skills to dental jewelry.
- Design Philosophy: It is not about copy-pasting global trends. Whether we are using script typography or filigree patterns, every piece is designed to tell a personal story.
- Accessibility: As mentioned in Diet Paratha, we are proving that grillz are for everyone—students, parents, and even my own grandma. It is not just for a specific subculture.
Why The Process Matters
People often ask if grillz are safe or how the fit works. Because I am obsessed with the details, I made sure the process mirrors high-end jewelry creation. It starts with a proper dental impression and ends with a finished piece that is handcrafted and sanitized.
My dual life as a designer and a DJ keeps me grounded. Whether I am curating a set for a brand event or sitting with a client to design a piece, it is all about the vibe. If you are curious about how these pieces are made or want to see the Motifs of Mumbai collection in person, I am always down for a conversation.
Shrikesh Choksi
I am Shrikesh. By day, I am building Frostbite Lab to make jewelry that actually means something, and by night, I am DJing. I started this to blend Bombay’s street energy with the heritage craft I found in Zaveri Bazaar, and I am grateful to see people connecting with it.
