Expressions in Motion: Modeling with Bharatanatyam Roots
I do not just stand in front of a lens. My training in Bharatanatyam means every shoot is a performance, using facial expressions and body language to tell a real story.
A short, expressive performance of a devotional piece. This video is a direct example of how I use abhinaya to convey longing and devotion, a skill I bring to my modeling to create more emotive brand stories.
A close-up portrait from the monsoon series. The expression here is meant to be contemplative and slightly melancholic, capturing the mood of a rainy day.
A joyful, smiling close-up that embodies the feeling of śṛṅgāra. My ability to switch between a wide range of emotions allows me to fit the specific mood a brand wants to create.
A black and white portrait exploring a moment of quiet femininity. The soft smile and pose are meant to feel gentle and introspective, showing a different, more subtle side of my expressive range.
This shot from a campaign for a traditional wellness brand tells a story of care and heritage. The interaction and shared gaze between generations was a key part of the narrative.
Embodying the fierce yet serene power of the goddess. This conceptual shoot required a strong, centered expression to convey divinity and strength, showcasing my ability to model for artistic and thematic projects.
A moment of peace during a shoot in the busy lanes of Gandhi Bazaar. Even in a chaotic environment, I can find a quiet moment and expression that tells a story.
This video is a short introduction to me as an artist. I speak about my journey, the challenges, and the joy I find in dance and acting, giving a glimpse into the person behind the portraits.
A hopeful, upward glance captured in a beautiful play of light and shadow. This image is about dreaming and introspection, using a simple expression to convey a deeper feeling.
About Expressions in Motion
Most modeling requires simply hitting a pose, but I approach every campaign as a narrative. Because I spend my life training in abhinaya, the classical art of expression, I know exactly how to use a slight tilt of the head or a shift in my gaze to communicate heritage, longing, or joy. Whether we are shooting a commercial lookbook or a moody editorial, I am not just wearing the clothes; I am telling the story behind them.
Why does classical dance training matter on a commercial set? It comes down to control. When a photographer asks for a specific mood, I do not just attempt to look the part. I understand the precise tension and release required in the body and facial muscles to make that expression look authentic rather than forced.
What I bring to your shoot
- Stamina and Presence: Modeling for an 8-hour shift is physically draining. The endurance I built through years of Bharatanatyam ensures that the 20th outfit in your catalog looks just as lively and poised as the first.
- Contextual Understanding: I am deeply comfortable with heritage jewelry, handlooms, and ethnic fusion wear. Because I understand the history behind these pieces, I know how to carry them with the grace they require. I am not a static prop; I am a collaborator who understands the context of the garment.
- Adaptability: I enjoy the variety of the job. Whether the vision calls for a controlled studio environment, a rain-soaked shoot in a misty forest, or a fast-paced street campaign in a busy lane like Gandhi Bazaar, I am ready to adapt my energy to fit the location.
My approach is to treat every frame like a performance. By bringing the discipline of a dancer to the world of fashion, I aim to create imagery that stops the scroll and actually connects with your audience. I am always open to discussing new concepts, whether you are building a high-fashion editorial campaign or a relatable, authentic social media lookbook.
