Authentic Shorin-Ryu Karate Training in Bengaluru
From 14 students in 1992 to a community of over 50,000 today, we teach traditional Okinawan Karate exactly as it is practiced at the source. Join us to build discipline, strength, and real self-defense skills.
This is the focus and synchronization we build at our dojo. We teach traditional Okinawa Shorin-ryu karate, where every movement has a purpose. As India's largest karate school, we maintain the highest standards of kata practice for all our students.
Our connection to the roots of karate is direct and personal. Here I am with Hanshi Minoru Nakazato, the world chairman of our style, in Okinawa. We ensure that what we teach in India is the same authentic Shorin-ryu karate taught in Japan.
We push our students to break their own limits. As part of the Black Belt examination, our students must show incredible endurance. We were proud to see two students set a new federation record of 1,351 continuous sit-ups, a testament to their hard work and will power.
This was our Silver Jubilee celebration, a milestone that shows our 25 years of dedication to karate. From just 14 students in 1992, we have grown into a family of over 50,000 students across India, all united by a passion for martial arts.
Power in karate comes from technique and spirit, not just brute force. This is a demonstration of Tameshiwari, or tile breaking, which requires immense focus and precise energy transfer. It is a skill honed over years of dedicated practice.
Karate is not just about fighting; it is a way of life that builds character. We teach our students, especially the young ones, that discipline starts with small things, like taking care of your own belongings. This value extends from the dojo into their homes and daily lives.
We believe in giving our students global exposure. Here is our team representing India at the Karate Kaikan in Okinawa, Japan. These opportunities allow them to train at the birthplace of karate and compete on an international stage.
Receiving my Kyoshi belt from Shureido in Okinawa was a dream come true. This rank is a recognition of decades of training and teaching, and I am grateful to my teachers and students who have been part of this journey. It represents our commitment to the highest level of karate.
About Featured
We do not believe in shortcuts. Whether you are aiming for a black belt or just starting with your first white belt, you will follow the same rigorous syllabus we bring back directly from our annual training in Okinawa. Our focus is on Kihon, Kata, and Kumite, practiced with the discipline that true martial arts require.
Our Okinawan Lineage
Our training philosophy is simple: we teach what we learn. Every year, my senior instructors and I travel to Okinawa, Japan, to train under the masters. We bring back the original Shorin-ryu syllabus to our dojos in Bengaluru, Mysore, and beyond. There is no dilution, and there are no modifications to make it easier. We teach it the way it is taught in Japan.
What to Expect in Class
This is not a casual gym or a hobby class. Our training at the Honbu Dojo and other centers is demanding. We combine high-intensity physical conditioning—including running and calisthenics—with technical drills. You will work on:
- Kihon (Basics): Mastering punches, blocks, and kicks until they are second nature.
- Kata (Forms): Learning structured routines that develop power, focus, and memory.
- Kumite (Sparring): Developing practical self-defense skills in a controlled, safe environment.
The Path to Black Belt
We guide students through the official ranking system, from the first white belt through to Black Belt. This progress is earned, not given. We conduct regular quarterly grading examinations where students demonstrate their technical proficiency and fitness levels. It is a long-term commitment, but the physical conditioning and mental resilience you gain are skills you will carry for life. If you are looking for a structured, disciplined environment to build your strength and character, you are in the right place.
