Hands-On Arts & Crafts for Preschoolers
We offer structured arts and crafts sessions in Mandi House that help children aged 2-7 build fine motor skills, focus, and creative confidence through traditional and modern techniques.
We celebrate heritage through our artisanal crafts workshops, including the timeless art of Hand Block Printing. These close-up shots show our budding creators learning about patterns and textures as they press their own designs, a wonderful activity for developing creativity.
We introduce our munchkins to global art forms like Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement. This activity teaches them about balance, harmony, and aesthetics as their little hands create magical floral pieces, fostering a deep appreciation for nature's beauty.
A key part of our storytelling sessions is making puppets. Here, children are engaged in creating their own characters, which helps reinforce the story's lessons and provides a fun, hands-on craft that improves dexterity and creativity.
About Hands-On Arts & Crafts
Our sessions require focus, whether your child is pressing wooden blocks for traditional printing or balancing stems in an Ikebana flower arrangement. We move beyond simple coloring exercises to teach specific techniques, such as proper grip, spatial awareness, and color blending. This approach ensures that your child is not just making a craft, but actively refining their dexterity and patience in a quiet, distraction-free environment.
Building Skills Through Traditional Arts
At Sangeet Bharati, we view arts and crafts as a foundational component of early learning. Operating out of our Mandi House campus, our program for ages 2-7 is designed to transition children from aimless play to purposeful creation.
We utilize traditional Indian practices like Hand Block Printing to teach children about symmetry, patterns, and the tactile nature of texture. By interacting with real wooden blocks, students develop their fine motor skills and understand the relationship between effort and result.
Why We Incorporate Ikebana and Puppet Making
We introduce diverse influences to broaden a child's perspective:
- Ikebana (Japanese Flower Arrangement): This practice teaches children about balance, proportion, and the appreciation of nature. It requires them to slow down and consider how each stem and leaf interacts with the space around it.
- Puppet Making: Beyond the craft aspect, storytelling with self-made puppets encourages verbal communication and social skills. Children learn to animate their creations, which helps in memory retention and emotional expression.
The Sangeet Bharati Approach
Our batches are kept small—usually 10 to 15 children—to ensure that each student receives individual attention from our instructors. We maintain a functional, institutional setting because we believe that a structured environment allows children to channel their energy effectively. The focus is on the process of creation rather than the final product. If your child comes home with paint on their hands and a new story to tell, we have succeeded in fostering their curiosity.
