Kathak Dance Retreats and Performances
Dance is my way of finding freedom, and these snapshots represent the journey we take together—whether in a studio or across the Himalayas. These moments are all about connection and finding your own rhythm.
This video captures the heart of our first Rangwang retreat in Ladakh. It’s a small glimpse into the journey of finding freedom through dance, connecting with each other, and immersing ourselves in the breathtaking Himalayan landscape. You can hear from the participants themselves what the experience meant to them.
Rangwang means freedom, and this video is all about that feeling. It shows the joy, the laughter, the quiet moments of reflection, and the beautiful family we built in just five days. This is the community spirit I hope to create in every retreat.
Dancing is a conversation with the space around you. Here I am exploring movement and expression within the beautiful, historic Belgadia Palace. My retreats are built on this idea of letting our surroundings, whether a palace or a mountain stream, become part of our dance.
A truly magical moment performing at the Kailasa Temple in Ellora. For me, dance is not confined to a studio. It is an art form that comes alive in the most incredible places, connecting us to history, culture, and something bigger than ourselves.
I am so excited to announce our next chapter: Rangwang in Goa! This poster, with beautiful art by Richa Kashelkar, is an invitation to join me for a 5-day immersive dance retreat where we will explore movement, flow, and storytelling by the sea.
This is the poster that started it all for our first retreat in Ladakh. It represents the core vision of Rangwang: finding freedom in dance amidst the vast, inspiring landscapes of the Himalayas. It was a journey of dance, flow, and storytelling.
One of my favorite parts of traveling for these retreats is connecting with the local community. This is a happy selfie with some wonderful women I met, a moment that captures the warmth and authentic cultural exchange that we embrace.
About Featured
My retreats are a mix of intense discipline and total release. We spend our mornings on Kathak technique and footwork, but by the evening, it is all about Abhinaya. This is where you learn to tell your own story without saying a word, using the environment around us to ground our movement.
The Rangwang Experience
When I say Rangwang means freedom, I mean it in the most literal sense. These retreats are not just about learning steps. They are about stripping back the daily noise and finding what makes you move.
How We Work
- Morning Technique: We start with the rigour of Kathak. Expect sweat, focus, and a lot of work on your tatkar (footwork) and spins. It is grounding and necessary.
- Evening Expression: This is where the magic happens. We explore Abhinaya, the art of storytelling through expression. We use the location—whether it is the quiet of Leh or the coast of Goa—to influence our choreography.
- The Community: You will likely arrive alone and leave with a family. We cook together, walk together, and share meals. It is that feeling of being home while being away, which I call the Ghar wali Diwali feeling.
Practical Details
My retreats are designed as small, intimate groups over 4 nights and 5 days. This size allows me to give everyone personal attention and ensures that the space remains safe for trying new things. Whether we are in the mountains or on the beach, I handle the logistics, accommodation, and cultural experiences, so you only need to show up and be present in the movement. If you are looking for a space to reconnect with yourself through dance, let's talk.
