About The Art of Embellishment
Every embroidered motif begins as a hand-drawn sketch before our artisans touch a needle to the fabric. We focus on structural embellishments, such as reinforced scalloped edges and metal sequin placement, which ensures the detailing does not just look beautiful but also maintains the fabric's integrity over time.
The Soul of Craftsmanship
At Sacaru, we view embellishment as an architectural process rather than just a decorative addition. We avoid mass-produced machine work, preferring the depth and character that only hand-guided needles can achieve. Whether we are adding a border to a vintage Kanjeevaram or creating a statement neckline, our approach remains anchored in traditional techniques.
Our Core Techniques
- Zardosi and Thread Work: We utilize classic Zardosi (gold and silver metal thread embroidery) and delicate French knots to create texture. This provides a three-dimensional quality that catches the light differently than modern machine embroidery.
- Structural Beading: We source high-quality glass beads and metal sequins, ensuring that the weight of the embellishment is balanced to the fabric. Heavy embellishments on delicate silks require specific support techniques, such as hidden fusing, which we apply to ensure the garment maintains its drape without sagging.
- Border Reinforcement: A scalloped edge or a detailed border is only as good as its foundation. We apply a hand-finished binding to all edges to prevent fraying, turning the border into a functional, durable part of the saree.
Why Process Matters
When you bring a saree to our Ganganagar studio, we do not simply apply patterns. We assess the weave of the fabric and the history of the silk. If we are working on a heritage piece, we design the embellishment to complement the existing Zari motifs, ensuring the new work honors the original story of the fabric. We invite our clients to be part of the design process, discussing motif placement and density to match your specific vision for the event.
