This intricately carved wooden doorway at the Varadarajan House in Coorg serves as a threshold between the outer world and a serene inner sanctuary. Framed by earthy laterite stone, it is an example of how we honor traditional craftsmanship, creating an entrance that feels both grand and deeply personal.
In the living room of the Dream Coffee Estate, a reclaimed antique wooden column stands as a silent witness to time, grounding the double-height space. We designed this room to be a conversation between old and new, where hand-chiseled stone floors and modern furnishings coexist under the expansive canopy of the Coorg forest visible through large glass doors.
The Dream Coffee Estate in Coorg is designed to be in constant dialogue with its lush surroundings. The home's facade, with its sloping terracotta roof and wrap-around verandas, embraces the landscape, creating a seamless transition from the curated interior to the wild beauty of the coffee plantation.
For this Delhi residence, we introduced a traditional wooden swing into a contemporary living space defined by cool grey lime-plastered walls and polished marble floors. This adaptive reuse project focuses on creating a harmonious balance, where modern minimalism is softened by familiar, tactile elements that evoke a sense of calm and playfulness.
The restoration of Rhodesia House in Dharmaj, Gujarat, was a project of reviving not just a building, but a piece of the town's history. This daytime view shows the intricate facade, a blend of European and Indian architectural styles, brought back to its original grandeur to serve as a new cultural hub for the community.
Detail is a language we speak fluently. For this staircase in a New Delhi farmhouse, we drew inspiration from traditional Sanjhi paper-cutting art to create a laser-cut metal screen. It acts as a delicate, light-filtering veil, demonstrating our approach of reinterpreting heritage crafts with modern fabrication techniques.
As dusk settles on the Dream Coffee Estate, the architecture softens. This view from the courtyard into the warmly lit living area highlights the interplay of light and shadow, with carved wooden details and a single pendant light creating a tranquil, inviting atmosphere that defines the essence of slow living.
About Featured
We practice 'listening architecture'—a process where we map the movement of light, the existing landscape, and the original soul of a site before proposing a single design element. Whether we are restoring a historic home in Gujarat or building a new retreat in the Coorg rainforest, our focus remains on creating spaces that feel as though they have always belonged to their environment.
Our architectural philosophy is rooted in the belief that a home should not just exist, but breathe. This featured collection represents our exploration of that balance, combining traditional motifs with contemporary execution.
Our Approach to Contextuality
We view architecture as a dialogue. In projects like the Varadarajan House in Coorg, this meant framing views of the rainforest through wrap-around decks and using deep, earthy materials like laterite stone and Sadarhalli granite to ground the structure in the landscape. For our urban work, such as residences in Delhi NCR, the challenge shifts to adaptive reuse—opening up dark, enclosed layouts to welcome natural light while retaining the original character of the building.
Materiality and Craft
We believe in the honesty of materials. You will see our preference for tactile textures throughout our portfolio: raw lime plaster, reclaimed timber, and hand-chiseled stone. We often integrate traditional craft, such as Sanjhi cutwork, into modern fabrication, creating screens that act as light-filtering veils rather than just partitions. This blending of the old and new allows us to create 'soul spaces'—homes that offer serenity, memory, and a sense of timeless repose.
